The Lead Recovery Specialist engages with patients through supportive presence, observation, and collaboration with the treatment team. This position supports patients in daily activities, wellness monitoring, and participation in programming while helping maintain a structured and compassionate environment that supports recovery.

In addition to fulfilling Recovery Specialist responsibilities, the Lead Recovery Specialist assists the Program Director in supporting the day-to-day operations of the unit, mentoring staff, and promoting consistent, high-quality care practices.

Full-Time shift with rotating weekends.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • The Lead Recovery Specialist maintains a supportive, trauma-informed presence on the unit to promote safety, emotional regulation, and recovery.
  • Engages respectfully with patients through observation, conversation, and supportive interaction to help ensure safety and well-being.
  • Conducts regular well-being checks (approximately every 60 minutes) in a manner that prioritizes dignity, privacy, and therapeutic engagement.
  • When clinically indicated and in accordance with program policy, participates in room safety checks while maintaining transparency and respect for personal space.
  • The Lead Recovery Specialist facilitates and documents daily therapeutic or recovery-focused groups that support patient engagement, skill development, and peer connection.
  • Participates as part of the multidisciplinary treatment team, supporting program goals, philosophy, and individualized care planning.
  • Assists with vital sign monitoring (including blood pressure) as part of patient health and safety practices.
  • The Lead Recovery Specialist responds appropriately to Code Calls and safety events, prioritizing de-escalation, trauma-informed response, and patient dignity.
  • Reports safety concerns, incidents, or unusual events promptly in accordance with organizational reporting procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Leadership Program Support

  • Serves as a role model for Recovery Specialists, demonstrating professionalism, compassion, and recovery-oriented care.
  • Assists with training and orientation of new staff, promoting consistency in trauma-informed and patient-centered practices.
  • Provides ongoing mentorship and support to Recovery Specialists to strengthen skills and quality of care.
  • Collaborates with the Program Director/Program Manager to:
    • Draft Recovery Specialist coverage schedules
    • Identify staffing needs
    • Support operational coordination of the unit
  • Observes and supports staff competencies and provides feedback to the Program Director when additional training or support may be beneficial.
  • Maintains the Recovery Specialist manual and assists with keeping procedures current and accessible.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Experience and Skills:

Education & Experience

  • High school diploma or Higher educational level or general education degree (GED).
  • Two years' experience working with substance use population.
  • Institutional experience with the care of dual diagnosis clients preferred.
  • Ability to display initiative, responsibility, accountability, and professionalism

HOURLY WAGE RANGE: $22.00-$24.00
