Trust & Estates Paralegal - Melville, NY - ONSITE
A boutique New York law firm is seeking a Trust & Estate Paralegal to join its growing team. This firm focuses on sophisticated estate and trust litigation matters and is known for providing high-quality, client-centered legal representation. The role offers the opportunity to work closely with attorneys on complex disputes involving estates, fiduciary obligations, and beneficiary rights.
Key Responsibilities
Estate & Trust Litigation Support (Core Focus):
- Assist attorneys in all phases of trust and estate litigation matters
- Draft and prepare legal documents, including petitions, motions, discovery requests, and correspondence
- Support cases involving will contests, contested accountings, breach of fiduciary duty, and related disputes
- Organize and maintain case files, exhibits, and supporting documentation
- Conduct factual research and assist with evidence gathering and case strategy preparation
Case Management & Coordination:
- Coordinate filings in Surrogate’s Court and other New York courts
- Manage deadlines, court calendars, and litigation timelines
- Communicate with clients, court personnel, and opposing counsel
- Assist with trial preparation, including compiling exhibits and preparing binders
- Support attorneys with hearings, depositions, and mediations
Client & Administrative Support:
- Serve as a key point of contact for clients, ensuring a high level of responsiveness and professionalism
- Prepare status updates and assist with client communications
- Maintain accurate records and ensure compliance with court procedures
Qualifications
- 3–8 years of experience as a Trust & Estate Paralegal
- Strong experience supporting estate litigation matters in New York required
- Familiarity with Surrogate’s Court procedures and filings
- Experience handling contested estates, fiduciary disputes, or related litigation matters preferred
- Excellent organizational, drafting, and communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple cases and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- Detail-oriented with a strong ability to work collaboratively with attorneys and staff
