What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Patient Accounts Billing Specialist position at Spurwink Services?
Finance-Patient Accounts department seeks a seasoned accounts receivable specialist, this position contributes to the mission of Spurwink by working independently to execute the billing and collections process in a timely, accurate, and efficient manner, maximizing the conversion of client services into paid accounts.
DUTIES:
- Review aging reports to determine requirements for follow up and prioritization.
- Follow up on all outstanding outpatient accounts greater than 30 days old.
- Identify claims processing inconsistencies and communicate findings to the Patient Accounts Manager.
- Respond to any patient inquiries regarding claims processing.
- Assist in the development of tracking trends and patterns of denial reasons for process improvement.
- Assist with development and ongoing updates of Collection Policies and Procedures.
- Assist in A/R-related matters for the year-end audit, internal QA audits or audits by third-party funding agencies.
- Perform various other duties as deemed appropriate and necessary by the Patient Accounts Manager, Director of Patient Accounts, or the CFO/Treasurer.
QUALIFICATIONS:
High School Diploma or equivalent. Five or more years of billing and collecting or equivalent experience in a healthcare setting. Proficiency with electronic billing procedures (EHR, EDI and HIPAA) is required. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Necessary: Proficient in Medicare, Maine Care, Commercial and WC billing, reimbursement and collections. Ability to prioritize multiple tasks effectively. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills are a must. Willingness to work effectively in a team-oriented environment. Familiarity with personal computer spreadsheets and database packages.
