We are seeking a Substation Commissioning Engineer โ Automation & Controls to support high-voltage substation and HVDC projects based out of Raleigh, NC. This role will focus on testing, commissioning, and validating substation automation systems, PLC-based controls, protection schemes, and interlocking logic both in a test center environment and at customer project sites. The ideal candidate will have experience with substation controls, relay protection, factory and site acceptance testing, and troubleshooting complex electrical systems during commissioning and energization activities. Candidates should possess a strong technical understanding of substation automation, bay control, signaling, and control schemes while working collaboratively with engineering and project teams to ensure safe and reliable system performance.
Responsibilities:
- Execute commissioning, testing, and energization activities for high-voltage substation automation and control systems.
- Configure, validate, and troubleshoot PLC-based controls, protection relays, bay controllers, and interlocking logic.
- Perform factory acceptance testing (FAT), site acceptance testing (SAT), and system integration activities prior to project turnover.
- Collaborate with engineering, project management, and field teams to resolve technical issues and ensure successful project execution.
- Ensure all commissioning activities are completed safely, efficiently, and in compliance with project specifications and industry standards.
Skills & Qualifications:
- Experience commissioning or testing high-voltage substations, HVDC systems, or substation automation systems.
- Strong understanding of protection relays, substation controls, interlocking schemes, and automation architecture.
- Hands-on experience with PLC programming, logic validation, and control system troubleshooting.
- Ability to interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
- Strong communication, problem-solving, and organizational skills with the ability to travel to project sites as needed.
Salary : $70,000 - $120,000
