About Us

Specialty Pipe Systems LLC is a growing pipe fabrication and welding company serving industrial and commercial customers. We specialize in stainless steel and carbon steel piping for boiler systems, ammonia systems, water lines, sanitary process piping, gas lines, and other specialized applications.

We are looking for an experienced Pipe Insulator who can independently install insulation and vapor-barrier systems on low-temperature piping. This position requires careful workmanship to prevent condensation, moisture intrusion, and damage to the insulation system.

Important Experience Requirement

Applicants must have experience insulating low-temperature piping and installing a complete, properly sealed vapor-barrier system. This is not a general building-insulation position.

The successful applicant must understand that the vapor barrier must remain continuous and sealed throughout the entire system, including at joints, seams, fittings, valves, supports, and penetrations.

Responsibilities

• Install insulation on low-temperature industrial and commercial piping systems.
• Read and interpret project drawings, specifications, insulation schedules, and manufacturer instructions.
• Measure piping, fittings, valves, flanges, and equipment to determine insulation requirements.
• Accurately cut, fit, and install insulation on straight pipe, elbows, tees, reducers, valves, flanges, and other components.
• Apply and maintain a continuous vapor barrier around the complete insulated piping system.
• Properly seal all vapor-barrier joints, seams, terminations, penetrations, and damaged areas.
• Install vapor stops where required by project specifications.
• Install protective PVC, aluminum, or other specified jacketing and finish materials.
• Fabricate and install insulation covers for fittings, valves, flanges, and irregular components.
• Inspect piping surfaces before installation and report conditions that could affect the completed insulation system.
• Identify and correct gaps, damaged insulation, open seams, poorly sealed joints, and other potential paths for moisture intrusion.
• Coordinate insulation work with pipefitters, welders, supervisors, customers, and other trades.
• Protect completed insulation and vapor barriers from damage during installation and construction.
• Safely operate knives, shears, banding tools, hand tools, power tools, and other insulation equipment.
• Follow all company, manufacturer, and job-site safety requirements.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organized work area.
• Perform additional related duties as necessary to meet the ongoing needs of the company.

Qualifications

• Proven experience as a mechanical or industrial pipe insulator.
• Experience installing insulation on low-temperature piping systems.
• Demonstrated knowledge of vapor-barrier installation and sealing requirements.
• Ability to properly insulate straight pipe, elbows, tees, reducers, valves, flanges, and pipe supports.
• Ability to install insulation neatly, tightly, and without unnecessary gaps.
• Experience applying mastics, adhesives, sealants, tapes, membranes, and vapor-retarder materials.
• Experience installing PVC, aluminum, or similar protective jacketing.
• Ability to read drawings, specifications, and insulation schedules.
• Ability to independently take measurements, calculate material requirements, and lay out work.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to moisture-tight workmanship.
• Ability to identify and repair damaged or incomplete vapor barriers.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
• Reliable transportation to and from the shop and assigned job sites.

Work Environment and Physical Requirements

This position requires working both indoors and outdoors throughout the year. Applicants must be willing and able to work in hot, cold, wet, snowy, windy, dusty, and other changing weather and job-site conditions.

Work may take place in active construction areas, industrial facilities, mechanical rooms, refrigerated spaces, elevated work areas, and other physically demanding environments.

Applicants must be able to:

• Lift and carry insulation, jacketing, tools, ladders, and other materials.
• Stand, walk, bend, kneel, climb, and work in different positions for extended periods.
• Safely work from ladders, scaffolding, and aerial lifts when required.
• Work around piping and equipment in confined or limited-access areas.
• Wear all required personal protective equipment.
