Assembly Plant Manager

Reports To: VP of Operations

Job Summary

We are seeking a hands-on, results-driven Assembly Plant Manager to lead all operations of our assembly manufacturing facility in Auburn, Indiana, generating approximately $20M in annual revenue. The plant specializes in producing high-quality components supplied to OEM manufacturers of cooking and HVAC appliances. The facility is ISO 9001:2015 certified.

The successful candidate will oversee daily production, quality, safety, maintenance, and continuous improvement initiatives while driving operational efficiency, cost control, and team performance. This role requires strong engineering fundamentals combined with proven leadership in assembly or light manufacturing environments to deliver on-time, high-quality output that meets stringent OEM specifications in a safe, compliant, and cost-effective manner. The Plant Manager will work closely with the VP of Operations to align plant performance with broader company objectives and customer requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide overall leadership and direction for plant operations, including production, precision assembly processes, quality assurance, maintenance, inventory, shipping/receiving, and facilities.
  • Develop and execute strategic and tactical plans to meet or exceed key performance indicators (KPIs) for safety, quality, delivery, cost, and productivity; regularly report progress and results to the VP of Operations.
  • Lead continuous improvement efforts using Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, 5S, and other methodologies to optimize assembly lines, reduce waste, improve throughput, and ensure components consistently meet OEM tolerances and performance standards for cooking and HVAC applications while maintaining ISO 9001:2015 certification.
  • Manage plant budget, including labor, materials, overhead, and capital expenditures; implement cost-saving initiatives while maintaining quality standards and providing financial updates to the VP of Operations.
  • Ensure full compliance with all federal, state, and local regulations, including OSHA, EPA, and industry-specific quality standards (e.g., ISO 9001:2015, IATF or equivalent appliance/OEM requirements).
  • Build, develop, and mentor a high-performing team of supervisors, engineers, technicians, and hourly staff; foster a culture of accountability, collaboration, and employee engagement.
  • Oversee talent acquisition, training, performance management, and succession planning.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams (engineering, sales, supply chain, finance) and the VP of Operations to support new product introductions, process changes, engineering changes, and specific OEM customer requirements.
  • Monitor and analyze production data to identify trends, solve problems, and drive data-based decision making; present insights and recommendations to senior leadership.
  • Champion safety as a core value; maintain an injury-free workplace through proactive programs and employee involvement.
  • Manage relationships with local utilities, service providers, and community stakeholders as needed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the VP of Operations to support overall business objectives.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Industrial, Manufacturing, or related technical field) required. Advanced degree or MBA is a plus.
  • Experience:
    • 7–10 years of progressive leadership experience in manufacturing or assembly operations.
    • Minimum 5 years in a plant management, operations management, or multi-department leadership role.
    • Demonstrated success leading assembly processes in a facility (ideally $10M–$50M revenue range), preferably supplying components to OEMs in appliance, HVAC, or similar industries.
  • Training: Completion of formal Six Sigma and Lean training (e.g., Green Belt level or equivalent) is required.
  • Strong technical knowledge of assembly techniques, automation, tooling, and manufacturing processes, with emphasis on producing reliable, precision components and maintaining ISO 9001:2015 certification.
  • Proven track record in Lean/Continuous Improvement, with measurable results in cost reduction, quality improvement (e.g., defect reduction, first-pass yield), and on-time delivery to demanding OEM customers.
  • Experience with budgeting, P&L responsibility, and financial acumen preferred.
  • Excellent leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills; ability to motivate teams and influence at all levels, including direct interaction with the VP of Operations.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite and ERP/MRP systems; familiarity with data analytics tools is a plus.
  • Ability to work flexible hours, including occasional weekends or shifts, as needed for a multi-shift operation.

Preferred Skills

  • Background in appliance components, HVAC, cooking equipment, or similar assembly-heavy industries supplying OEMs.
  • Prior experience with OEM quality systems, PPAP, APQP, or customer-specific requirements.
  • Prior experience in a union or non-union environment.
  • Certification in Lean Six Sigma (Green Belt or higher) or similar.
  • Knowledge of preventive maintenance programs and capital project management.

What We Offer

  • Competitive base salary with performance-based bonus and profit-sharing opportunities.
  • Comprehensive benefits package including health, dental, vision, 401(k), and paid time off.
  • Opportunity to make a significant impact in a growing, entrepreneurial environment while reporting directly to the VP of Operations and supporting major OEM customers in the cooking and HVAC appliance sectors.

This role is ideal for an experienced leader with a technical background who thrives in a hands-on setting and wants to drive excellence in component assembly for the appliance industry while upholding ISO 9001:2015 standards.
