Social Media Specialst

Social Media Specialist Job Summary:

Sparks Group is working with a global professional association in Washington, DC to find a Social Media Specialist to help drive communication projects that foster community growth and engagement, as well as drive readership, authorship, and revenue for the association’s publications. This is a long-term, hybrid (2 days onsite) contract role.

As a Social Media Specialist, you will implement and drive forward the established strategic direction for the association’s brand level publications social media presence while supporting the range of sub-brand accounts in collaboration with the product marketing teams. You will also support the communications team with writing/editing, stakeholder engagement, and project management to advance long-term priorities and support rapid response projects.

Social Media Specialist Responsibilities:

• Implement the strategy and drive new tactics for publications’ brand-level social media presence across platforms to engage with our community.
• Identify opportunities, test new approaches, and make data informed recommendations to evolve social media strategy and processes.
• Manage, prioritize, and execute requests from global marketing colleagues in alignment with overall strategy.
• Support communications projects through planning, content creation and delivery, and coordination with teams.
• Provide support and guidance for other staff who manage social accounts for journals and other sub-brands of publications.

Social Media Specialist Qualifications:

• A bachelor’s degree, with a preference for fields related to communications or marketing.
• 5 years of experience in social media communications or a related function.
• Significant experience managing social media for a similarly high-profile organization and familiarity with management platforms (e.g. Brandwatch, Buffer, Sprout, Hootsuite).
• Experience with basic design through tools like Canva.
• Confident and self-motivated professional who can identify problems and implement solutions.
• Clear thinker and excellent writer with an organized and detail-oriented approach.
• Preference for familiarity and experience with researchers and the scientific community.
