Compensation: $100,000 – $135,000 (based on experience)
Position Overview:
Seeking an experienced Purchasing Manager to lead purchasing operations for an automotive manufacturing facility in Holland, MI. This leadership role is responsible for developing sourcing strategies, managing supplier relationships, leading a high-performing purchasing team, and driving cost, quality, and delivery improvements. The ideal candidate has a strong background in automotive purchasing, supplier negotiations, strategic planning, and team leadership.
Position Responsibilities:
- Provide strategic leadership for the North American purchasing team and oversee local plant purchasing activities.
- Develop and execute purchasing strategies that support business objectives, operational excellence, and long-term growth.
- Prepare and manage annual business plans, department budgets, and purchasing objectives.
- Develop, maintain, and strengthen a high-performing supplier base while building long-term supplier partnerships.
- Partner with suppliers, Corporate Materials, and cross-functional teams to support new product launches, supplier development, quality improvements, and cost reduction initiatives.
- Lead Value Analysis/Value Engineering (VA/VE) activities, supplier improvement efforts, and post-launch support for new programs.
- Manage and develop the purchasing team by setting objectives, coaching employees, and ensuring the resources needed to meet business goals.
- Ensure purchasing operations achieve world-class performance in quality, cost, and on-time delivery while supporting customer and manufacturing requirements.
- Research, recommend, and implement new purchasing strategies, processes, technologies, policies, and best practices to improve performance.
- Develop and implement purchasing policies, procedures, and planning processes that support continuous improvement and customer requirements.
- Negotiate supplier agreements and oversee strategic sourcing activities to achieve favorable commercial terms.
- Collaborate with Operations, Engineering, Materials, Quality, Finance, and other functional teams to support production, new program launches, and overall business objectives.
Position Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Supply Chain, Materials Management, or a related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 8 years of purchasing and management experience, preferably within automotive manufacturing.
- Strong background in supplier management, strategic sourcing, contract negotiations, and materials management.
- Experience managing budgets, developing business plans, and supporting financial objectives.
- Proven leadership experience with the ability to build, mentor, and develop high-performing teams.
- Demonstrated project management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
- Strong understanding of continuous improvement principles, supplier development, and cost reduction initiatives.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills with both internal teams and external suppliers.
- Ability to work cross-functionally and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization.
- Automotive manufacturing experience is strongly preferred.
Salary : $115,000 - $140,000
