What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Test Engineer position at Space Information Laboratories?
Summary:
Ideal candidates will have excellent skills in collaborative problem solving, the willingness to overcome hardware constraints, and the internal drive to create quality products.
Responsibilities:
1. Support all of the organization’s product testing needs including (but not limited to): Thermal cycling and humidity, thermal vacuum, random vibration, shock, and electromagnetic interference testing
2. Develop, author, and maintain complex test plans and procedures for all levels of product assembly to ensure the verification and validation of all customer requirements and unit capability
3. Develop and author work instructions and travelers, re-work instructions, and assembly processes, as needed
4. Compile data and define changes required in testing equipment, testing procedures, manufacturing processes, or new testing requirements
5. Maintain required test engineering logs, such as observation logs, and records
6. Define test equipment needs and assist in the installation of new test equipment
7. Troubleshoot failed units from a system-wide level down to an individual component level, work with engineering support to identify root cause and possible design change requirements, and report findings to the quality assurance department
8. Document, record, and write reports for environmental testing, storage batteries, and nonconformance issues
9. Prepare test reports for management
10. Develop and design automated test equipment
11. Drive failure analysis efforts including documentation, technical analysis, instruction, and customer interaction
12. Ensure on time and accurate execution of tests
13. Identify root cause and possible design change requirements for failed units, and report findings to the quality assurance department
14. Ensure all tests and procedures meet company and industry standards
15. Oversight of junior team members
16. Other duties as assigned
Experience:
Minimum of five (5) years of test engineering experience
Required Skills:
- Knowledge of engineering principles and practices
- Ability to work in a multi-disciplinary design and development teams
- Knowledge of requirements management, system design, and systems integration
- Ability to use Vb.net, Labview, Visual Basic and Matlab
- Ability to write software in C and C
- Ability to use excellent verbal and written communication to convey all aspects of testing
- Ability to adapt to changing priorities
- Experience with various testing equipment, standards, and methodologies to include manual and automated testing
- High proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, Visio, SharePoint, etc.)
Preferred Skills:
- Experience with AS9100D Quality Management System policies and procedures
- Experience working in an ERP system (Microsoft NAV, Deltek, SAP, etc)
- Experience using the following software: Lab View, MatLab, Unix
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree in an engineering discipline, required
- Associate’s degree in an engineering discipline with a minimum of five (5) years of experience, and demonstrated engineering skillset, will be considered in lieu of the bachelor’s degree requirement
Preferred Certifications:
- Soldering, J-STD-001 with Space Addendum
- IPC-A-600 Acceptability of Printed Circuit Boards
- IPC-A-610 Acceptability of Electronics Assemblies
ITAR Requirements:
To conform to U.S. Government space technology export regulations, applicant must be a U.S. citizen, lawful permanent resident of the U.S., protected individual as defined by ITAR (22 CFR §120.15) or eligible to obtain the required authorizations from the U.S. Department of State.
Other Requirements:
Must be willing to travel to external test labs for quality testing as needed
- Must be eligible to obtain a security clearance.
- Must pass a pre-employment drug screening and background check.
- Must use personal mobile device for multi-factor authentication (MFA) for system access. This authenticates your identity.
- Must be willing to travel to external testing facilities at least 25% of the time

Compensation:
Salary Range: $120,000.00 - $165,000.00

Retirement Benefits: Company 401k retirement plan, where the company will match up to four percent (4%) of employee contributions, subject to plan terms and conditions.
