About Us: Southwestern Community Services (SCS) Head Start is a federally funded early childhood education program with five NAEYC-accredited centers. We are dedicated to promoting school readiness and providing comprehensive early childhood services to children from income-eligible families.
Job Summary:
The Nurse Consultant provides professional nursing consultation and support to the SCS Head Start Program to ensure compliance with Head Start Performance Standards related to children’s health. Working with minimal supervision, the Nurse Consultant supports staff, families, and managers by reviewing Individual Health Plans (IHPs), completing on-site medical services reviews, and providing health education to staff and families. This role supports overall program quality by ensuring safe, consistent, and compliant health practices across all Head Start centers.
Essential Functions:
- Become familiar with Head Start Performance Standards, program plans, and all program policies and procedures related to health.
- Visit SCS Head Start centers to review Individual Health Plans (IHPs) and complete Medical Services On-Site Review Checklists.
- Conduct follow-up center visits as needed to ensure corrective actions and compliance.
- Provide staff training on medication administration, childhood illnesses, and health procedures as needed.
- Attend two Health and Mental Health Services Advisory Committee meetings during the school year. (November & May, typically Friday morning)
- Meet with parents to provide health education and consultation as needed.
- Contribute health-related articles to the SCS newsletter.
- Consult with the Health, Safety & Nutrition Services Manager regarding Individual Health and Nutrition Plans requiring medical expertise.

Desired Qualifications:
- Registered Nurse (RN) with a current license.
- Experience with pediatric populations preferred.
- Experience with Head Start or early childhood programs a plus.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

Position Details:
Part-time contractual position (20–25 hours per school year)
Hourly Rate: $36.50/hour
