Health, Safety & Nutrition Services Manager – Head Start Program
About Us: Southwestern Community Services (SCS) Head Start is a federally funded early childhood education program with five NAEYC-accredited centers. We are dedicated to promoting school readiness and providing comprehensive early childhood services to children from income‑eligible families.
Position Overview: We are seeking a dedicated Health, Safety & Nutrition Services Manager to oversee the delivery, tracking, and compliance of all health, safety, and nutrition services within the SCS Head Start Program. In this role, you will ensure all children have a medical and dental home; families receive support, training, and access to community health and nutrition resources; and children with specialized needs have current Individual Health or Nutrition Plans. You will support program safety and nutrition excellence while ensuring full adherence to Head Start Performance Standards, USDA CACFP requirements, and NH State Child Care Licensing Rules and NAEYC Standards. You will provide health and nutrition education, coordinate dental screenings, review special diet orders, supervise center cooks, and create monthly menus. You will also oversee emergency preparedness, safety checklists, and collaborate closely with the Facilities Manager to maintain compliance in all safety-related licensing requirements. As a member of the Head Start Management Team, you will participate in planning, staff training, and program evaluation.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversee all health, safety, and nutrition services in alignment with Head Start Performance Standards and NH Child Care Licensing Rules.
- Ensure every child has a medical and dental home and that families have access to community health and nutrition resources.
- Develop, monitor, and update Individual Health or Nutrition Plans for children with special needs.
- Supervise center cooks; create monthly menus; ensure food safety, sanitation, and USDA CACFP compliance.
- Oversee emergency preparedness planning and regularly review center safety checklists.
- Collaborate with Facilities Manager regarding CPR/First Aid tracking, center safety, & licensing compliance.
- Work collaboratively with managers and community partners; participate in program planning, staff training, and program evaluation.
- Cover in the classroom as needed.

Qualifications:
- A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in health science, Public Health, Nutrition/ Dietetics, Nursing, or related field. Registered Dietitian is a plus.
- Experience with USDA CACFP requirements
- Ability to travel to Head Start Centers, cover classrooms as needed and work flexible hours.
- Strong organizational skills and the ability to work independently or as part of a team.
- Experience working with young children and families.
- Knowledge of current health and nutrition issues, emergency preparedness, and safety best practices.
- Creative, positive attitude and strong leadership/supervision skills.
