Job Description

Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) offers career-training programs in numerous technical, industrial and medical fields at a reasonable cost, going so far as to even waive tuition for certain eligible students. Located in Richlands, Virginia, Southwest offers associate’s degrees in such fields as business, education, general studies, liberal arts and science. These degrees are primarily intended for students who wish to transfer to a four-year university. Southwest also has associate degrees that feature programs intended to lead directly to a career in fields such as Nursing, Radiography and Administration of Justice.

Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) is seeking a dynamic and student-centered Grant Specialist and Coach to support the implementation of a federally funded ARC POWER Grant initiative. This full-time, three-year position will play a critical role in advancing a comprehensive training and certification program designed to prepare skilled technicians for high-demand industries in the region.
The Grant Specialist and Coach will work closely with the Division Dean to ensure effective grant implementation, compliance, and program success. This role combines administrative coordination, stakeholder engagement, and individualized student coaching to support workforce development and student achievement.
Key Responsibilities
Grant Administration & Program Implementation
  • Assist the Division Dean in executing all aspects of grant implementation
  • Manage grant compliance, reporting requirements, and performance tracking
  • Oversee budget monitoring and ensure alignment with grant guidelines
  • Coordinate program activities to meet project goals and timelines

  • Lead and support student recruitment initiatives targeting program participation in both credit and non-credit programs and courses.
  • Provide individualized coaching and mentoring to students
  • Guide students through training pathways, credential attainment, and career placement
  • Connect students with campus resources including advising, financial aid, and support services
Employer & Community Engagement
  • Collaborate with regional employers and industry partners to align training with workforce needs
  • Assist in organizing and facilitating employer engagement activities such as internships, job fairs, and advisory meetings
  • Serve as a liaison between SWCC, employers, and community stakeholders
Faculty & Program Support
  • Provide coordination and support for faculty delivering training programs
  • Assist in curriculum-aligned program delivery and continuous improvement efforts
  • Support the development of industry-recognized certifications, credentials, and related programs of study.

This is a restricted position. Continued employment in this role is contingent upon funding availability and the needs of the College. Position is not eligible for severance benefits under state policy. Grant term is three (3) years.

Position is located on main campus but will occasionally require travel to off-campus sites.
