Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) offers career-training programs in numerous technical, industrial and medical fields at a reasonable cost, going so far as to even waive tuition for certain eligible students. Located in Cedar Bluff, Virginia, SWCC offers associate’s degrees in such fields as business, education, general studies, liberal arts and science. These degrees are primarily intended for students who wish to transfer to a four-year university. SWCC also has associate’s degrees that feature programs intended to lead directly to a career in fields such as Nursing, Radiography and Administration of Justice.
Adjunct Instructor for Certified Fiber Optics Technician
- Deliver CFOT certification training in accordance with approved curriculum and industry standards
- Provide hands-on instruction in fiber optics theory, safety, installation, termination, testing, and troubleshooting
- Prepare lesson plans, instructional materials, and assessments
- Evaluate student performance and maintain accurate records
- Ensure a safe learning environment, particularly during lab-based activities
- Maintain current knowledge of fiber optics technologies and workforce trends
- Communicate effectively with students, staff, and college administrators
Instructional faculty must reside in the state of Virginia or be available to teach in-person classes at one of the Southwest Virginia Community College (SWCC) locations (Main Campus, Lebanon, Bluefield, Southern Gap).
May be required to perform other duties as assigned. May be required to assist the agency or state government generally in the event of an emergency declaration by the Governor.
- Certified Fiber Optics Technician (CFOT) certification (required)
- 5-years non-teaching work experience working in fiber optics, telecommunications, or a related field
- Ability to teach technical concepts to adult learners with diverse backgrounds
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Commitment to student success and workforce development
- Associate’s degree
- Experience providing technical education in classroom/small group setting.
- Curriculum development experience
- Experience delivering workforce or industry-based training
