JOB DESCRIPTION FOR BIRTH TO FIVE SCHOOLS BUS MONITOR/FACILITY ASSISTANT

Status:  Non-Exempt from the Fair Labor Standards Act                                           

 

Pay Rate:  $13.00 hour

 

Supervisory Relationships:  Directly supervised by the School Supervisor. Takes instruction from Teacher when in classroom. Position does not have supervisory duties.

 

Purpose:  The purpose of the Birth to Five Schools Bus Monitor/Facility Assistant is to provide monitoring oversight on the transportation routes to and from the school. During other scheduled time will assist in the classroom to meet child-to-staff ratios, one-on-one assistance with children who have disabilities, school cleaning, recordkeeping, or in any manner that will help accomplish the Performance Standards.

 

Principal Duties & Responsibilities:

1.            Responsible for serving as a bus monitor on transportation routes as assigned. Follows safety protocols, including maintaining emergency contact numbers on every child. Follows all safety procedures for ensuring that children are transported safely; counting children boarding and unloading bus and walking to the back of the bus to look for children and items at the end of the route every time.

 

2.            Serves as a monitor for children being transported to obtain therapy. Interacts with the children as time allows, including one-on-one activities with children who have disabilities.

 

3.            Assists with school activities when not serving as a bus monitor. This position does not eat meals unless assigned to a group of children at a school during meal time and may take their break if assigned.

 

4.            Completes school cleaning duties as assigned. May include sweeping and mopping classroom, cleaning children’s bathrooms, sanitizing toys and bedding, and emptying trash.

 

5.            Uses ROMA principles to establish performance management goals and to improve the focus on program and family outcomes.

 

6.            Participates in required in-service and pre-service training. Obtains and maintains certifications as required (such as First Aide, CPR).

 

7.            Completes assigned paperwork and computer data entry as assigned. Must participate in recruitment of families and obtaining in-kind services and donations from the community to meet the required match requirement. Responsible for documenting match correctly and reporting monthly.

 

8.            Assists with medical/dental screenings, mental health screenings (including observation notes), and IEP/IFSP development of students.

 

9.            Other related duties as assigned.

 

 

Performance Expectations:

1.            Confidentiality of client information is essential.

 

2.            Ensure children’s safety by enforcing safety rules and procedures. Follows other safety rules such as wearing closed-toe shoes (no sandals), bus safety rules and various other program procedures.

 

3.            Comply with program and licensing guidelines. Abides by SOCAG Personnel Policies and adheres to Performance Standards.

 

4.            Attend training as required, including pursuit of college education and CDA credential. Must maintain any training or certification requirements.

 

5.            Adheres to safety protocols during transportation routes. Assist with emergency medical care, safety, fire prevention, and sanitation of children and school environment.

 

6.            Must be able to work with children up to age 5 from a variety of backgrounds, including children who have disabilities.

 

7.            Able to relate to problems of low-income and minority families.

Qualifications:

Qualifications:

1.            High School Diploma or GED. Some experience with Early Childhood or daycare in a paid or volunteer position is preferred. CDA or advanced education in early childhood is preferred.

 

2.            Must be able to obtain CPR/First Aide certification and Food Handler’s Permit.

 

3.            Must have a valid driver’s license and personal liability insurance on vehicle.

 

3.            Annual Tuberculin screen is required or as directed by a medical professional. Initial physical is required.

 

4.            Negative pre-employment drug screen prior to employment with a current photo identification. During employment, employees are subject to drug testing according to SOCAG Personnel Policies.

 

5.            Criminal background checks including fingerprinting are required and performed according to Oklahoma statutes and any program regulations.

 

Working Conditions:

1.            Must be able to bend, kneel, stand, and sit on the level of the children being served. Spends a large portion of work time riding the bus on transportation routes and escorting children to and from school for the bus trips. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds. Cleaning includes the use of a bleach solution.

 

2.            Must be able to interact and relate to children in a positive manner.

 

3.            Must have flexible availability to meet scheduling and training needs. Work time may include split shifts as needed.

 

4.            May be temporarily assigned to other schools to meet child-staff ratios.
