What are the responsibilities and job description for the Underground Surveyor position at Southwest Critical Materials LLC?
Summary of Position:
The Underground Surveyor is responsible for providing survey support to mine operations and other groups as required.
Accountability:
The Underground Surveyor reports to the Senior Mining Engineer in all aspects of engineering operations.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Perform underground surveying, including but not limited to:
- Long hole stope ring layout
- Establish lasers and issue cut sheets for development headings
- Layout geology drill holes for exploration drilling
- Survey raises
- Shaft surveying
- CMS surveys, creation, and volumes
- Survey surface stockpiles
- Underground surveying using resection techniques
- Daily mining advance surveys and survey control establishment
- Assist in preparation of mine maps for miners and engineering
- Ability to survey alone and unsupervised
- Complete daily mine production reports

- Ensure that all safety procedures and regulatory guidelines are followed.
- Support the site safety culture through leadership and regularly engaging with and holding the workforce accountable for safe work practices.
- Participate in health and safety meetings and risk reviews as required.
Experience and Training:
The Underground Surveyor must have proficient knowledge in the following areas:
- Excellent safety record
- Associated degree in surveying or equivalent survey experience in a surface or underground mining operation.
- Minimum of five (5) years’ experience preferred surveying underground
- Solid knowledge and experience of surveying fundamentals, calculations, and notetaking techniques
- Strong computer skills and ability to analyze technical data
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite, Leica Infinity, AutoCAD, Deswik, Leica, Sokkia and Trimble Total Station survey equipment, CS 20 Data collector, Leica Void scanner, Maptek’s ISite Program, and Maptek’s ISite Scanner preferred.
- Willing and able to work in a dynamic and changing environment
- Strong verbal and written communication skills required
- Ability to demonstrate safety leadership required

Work Schedule and Personal Protective Equipment:
The incumbent will be required to work a 40 hour per week schedule. Position may require weekend or evening work depending on organizational and operational requirements. Ability to work extended hours as operational needs require to support projects. Self-selected clothes are required for protection in an underground work environment.
