What are the responsibilities and job description for the Toplander position at Southwest Critical Materials LLC?
Purpose of the Position:
The successful candidate is responsible for transporting people, equipment, and materials up and down shaft and on the surface and inspecting equipment to ensure safe operations.
Accountability:
The Toplander reports to the Underground Operations Supervisor.
Responsibilities and Duties:
- Deliver supplies to the Underground team
- Remove clean up from the Underground mine to the surface
- Train on and operate equipment related to the position
- Knowledge of transporting people, equipment, and materials up and down shaft and on the surface
- Inspect equipment to ensure safe operation
- Clean underground rooms, roadways, working areas, mining equipment and conveyances using hand & power tools
- Load, move, sort and pile materials and supplies
- Take ownership in and accountability for maintaining safe work practices, safe, respectful workplace, and safe operation and maintenance of equipment

Experience and Training:
The incumbent must have proficient knowledge in the following areas:
- A minimum of one (1) year underground mining preferred
- High school diploma or GED
- Inspect equipment, structures, or materials to identify the cause of errors or other problems or defects.
- Familiar with equipment and tools
- Operation of forklifts, manlifts

The incumbent must demonstrate the following skills:
- Ability to work safely and effectively in an underground mining environment required
- Good communication skills
- Perform and document work area inspections and equipment inspection/ operation cards
- Giving full attention to what other people are saying, taking time to understand the points being made, asking questions as appropriate with the ability of communicating with others be it verbal, written, handheld radios, mine radios, cap lamp signals or any other type of communication necessary for the safe completion of the task

Work Schedule and Personal Protective Equipment:
The incumbent is expected to work a rotating shift with required overtime for training or other business circumstances. Ability to work extended hours as operational needs require to support projects. Personal Protective Equipment required for this position includes, but is not limited to, hard hat, safety glasses, hearing protection, and steel-toed boots. All equipment must be MSHA approved as applicable.
