**Position Summary**

Southern Utah University (SUU) and the College of Performing & Visual Arts (CPVA) invite applications for the position of Music Productions & Facility Manager within the Department of Music. Reporting to the Chair of the Department, this position provides leadership, technical expertise, and operational oversight for rehearsals, performances, recording and streaming activities, and events across Music facilities, including the state-of-the-art George S. and Dolores Dore Eccles Music Center.

This role requires a highly organized, collaborative, and technically skilled professional who can support a diverse range of music programs, including traditional Music Performance, Commercial Music, and Music Technology. The Music Productions & Facility Manager ensures high-quality production standards while overseeing facility coordination, equipment management, and student workforce supervision.

In partnership with the Department Chair and Administrative Assistant, this position coordinates internal and external events, manages ticketing in collaboration with the Utah Shakespeare Festival, and works closely with SUU Facilities and custodial teams to maintain safe, efficient, and professional operations. The role may also include instructional support within the candidate's area of expertise. Evening and weekend work is required.

**Essential Functions**

Music Production & Technical Operations

  • Oversee and operate lighting, sound reinforcement, recording, and A/V production for Department of Music concerts, recitals, guest artists, Commercial Music performances, and Music Technology showcases.
  • Operate and manage professional recording systems in performance halls and studios.
  • Design, configure, and integrate audio, video, lighting, and recording systems across venues.
  • Direct multi-camera video capture, livestream and hybrid productions, including live mixing, multitrack recording, and post-production.
  • Manage encoding, streaming platforms, and digital distribution workflows.
  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot audio, projection, intercom, digital consoles, and video systems.
  • Maintain expertise in digital audio networking (e.g., Dante), DMX/sACN control, and recording workflows.
  • Provide technical consultation to faculty and guest artists.
  • Ensure venues are production-ready and meet professional standards.

Facility & Event Management

  • Coordinate scheduling, setup, and strike for internal and external music events.
  • Serve as primary operations liaison for the George S. and Dolores Dore Eccles Music Center.

  • Collaborate with the Department Chair and Administrative Assistant on planning and calendar management.
  • Coordinate ticketing logistics with the Utah Shakespeare Festival as needed.
  • Partner with SUU Facilities, custodial teams, and IT/Media Services to address maintenance and technical needs.
  • Support donor events, recruitment activities, and cross-campus initiatives.
  • Track facility work orders and improvement projects.
  • Assist with facility policy development and enforcement.
  • Ensure compliance with university safety p licies and OSHA standards related to rigging, electrical systems, and production areas; conduct safety briefings and coordinate inspections and repairs as needed.

Recording Studio & Equipment Oversight

  • Oversee maintenance, calibration, inventory, and lifecycle planning of studio and performance A/V equipment.
  • Maintain professional recording systems, DAWs, microphones, outboard gear, and digital consoles.
  • Research and recommend equipment purchases in collaboration with the Chair.
  • Ensure secure storage and organization of all production equipment.
  • Support archival recording and performance documentation.

Student Supervision & Training

  • Hire, train, schedule, and supervise student production assistants and recording technicians.
  • Mentor students in live sound, recording, streaming, lighting systems, and production best practices.
  • Approve timecards and coordinate payroll.
  • Promote safe working practices and technical standards.

Budget & Administrative Support

  • Assist with monitoring production-related budgets and equipment expenditures.
  • Track expenses related to events and facility operations.
  • Provide input for long-term capital planning for production and recording infrastructure.

Additional Duties

  • Perform other duties as assigned to support the mission of the Department of Music and CPVA.

This position works in a variety of locations and facilities which include performance halls, recording studios, and office environments. Position may involve work at heights utilizing ladders, personnel lifts, and fall protection equipment. Position will be required to lift at least 50lbs. Work schedule varies; however, typical workday is from 10am - 6pm with significant evening and weekend hours aligned with concerts and events.

**Education & Experience**

Minimum Qualifications

  • 4 Year / Bachelors degree in Music Technology, Audio Production, Sound Recording, Technical Theatre or related field OR equivalent professional experience in the field with evidence of professional training or certification.
  • Demonstrated experience in:
  • Professional sound recording and live sound reinforcement.
  • Operation of digital audio / video consoles.
  • Multitrack recording systems and DAWs.
  • Maintenance of professional A/V systems.
  • Working knowledge of audio networking systems (e.g., Dante), DMX lighting control, and video projection systems.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively within a team-oriented environment.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Excellent communication and collaborative abilities.
  • Ability to work nights and weekends.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Dante certification / the ability to operate and troubleshoot Dante audio-over-IP networking systems.
  • Experience with:
  • S DMX lighting control, projection systems, and digital/audio consoles (e.g., Yamaha, ETC Element, SSL, or similar).
  • Lighting design and implementation for live performances.
  • Projection systems, QLab, Adobe Creative Suite, and media presentation software.
  • Maintenance and operation of professional lighting and dimming systems.
  • Performance hall acoustics and integrated recording environments.
  • Experience supporting music programs (e.g., Commercial Music, Music Technology) in a higher education setting.
  • Experience coordinating ticketed events and working with external arts organizations.
  • Demonstrated ability to supervise, train, and mentor student employees.
