What are the responsibilities and job description for the Jail Clinician position at Southeast Healthcare?
The Jail Clinician will provide comprehensive mental health services within a correctional setting. This role supports inmates and correctional staff by conducting mental health assessments, intervening in crisis situations, and assisting with clinical decision-making related to level-of-care placement, including hospitalization. The clinician plays a key role in treatment planning, stabilization, and re-entry preparation.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide mental health assessments, diagnostic evaluations, and clinical recommendations for incarcerated individuals
- Intervene in mental health crisis situations and collaborate with correctional staff to ensure safety and appropriate care
- Assist in determining level-of-care placement, including referrals for psychiatric hospitalization when clinically indicated
- Deliver individual counseling and brief therapeutic interventions
- Provide case management services, including coordination with internal and external providers
- Participate in re-entry planning to support continuity of care upon release
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with agency, state, and correctional standards
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, including correctional staff, medical providers, and community partners
Qualifications
- Ohio LSW/LPC required
- Master’s degree in social work, counseling, or a related behavioral health field
- Ability to work effectively in a correctional environment
- Strong assessment, crisis intervention, and clinical decision-making skills
- Prior experience working in corrections, community mental health, or crisis settings is a plus
- Knowledge of re-entry planning and community-based mental health resources is a plus
