TITLE: School Social Worker
SALARY & BENEFITS: Based on current teacher contract
QUALIFICATIONS: Must hold a current teacher license in School Social Work AND a current Minnesota Board of Social Work license (or be able and willing to obtain one prior to the start of the assignment)
DIRECT SUPERVISOR: Building Principal
CONTRACT DAYS & HOURS: 185 days from mid-August through mid-June as dictated by the annual school calendar. On contract days, building hours are typically 7:30am - 3:30pm, but may be occasionally changed or extended to help fulfill professional duties. Some time outside of the building will be needed to successfully complete duties and responsibilities listed below.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Student Support & Intervention
- Provide individual and small-group counseling focused on social, emotional, and behavioral needs.
- Conduct assessments to determine student and family needs and develop intervention plans.
- Deliver crisis intervention services, including risk assessments, safety planning, and immediate emotional support.
Family & Community Engagement
- Partner with parents/guardians to support student well-being and school success.
- Conduct home visits as needed to assess family needs and provide outreach.
- Connect students and families with appropriate community resources and services.
Schoolwide Prevention & Programs
- Lead or support initiatives related to attendance, bullying prevention, social skills development, mental health awareness, and restorative practices.
- Contribute to schoolwide Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS), including Tier 1, 2, and 3 interventions.
Collaboration with School Staff
- Consult with teachers, administrators, and support staff to address student needs.
- Participate in MTSS, student support teams, and problem-solving meetings.
- Assist with professional learning for staff on relevant topics such as trauma-informed practices, mandated reporting, and behavior support.
Attendance & Truancy Intervention
- Identify barriers to student attendance and create improvement plans in partnership with families and staff.
- Support truancy documentation and engage with community agencies to address challenges.
Advocacy
- Advocate for equitable access to resources and support for students experiencing challenges related to disability, poverty, trauma, or other barriers.
