The College of Business at Black Hills State University seeks to hire an Instructor for a full-time term position in Accounting beginning August 2026.
Black Hills State University is a teaching-focused institution located in Spearfish, South Dakota, in the scenic Black Hills region. The College of Business is accredited by AACSB International — a distinction held by fewer than 6% of business schools worldwide — and serves approximately 400 students across campuses in Spearfish and Rapid City. The college offers undergraduate programs in Business Administration with specializations including accounting, agribusiness/ranch management, economics, finance, entrepreneurial studies, health services administration, human resource management, management, and marketing, as well as an MBA in applied management.
The successful candidate will join a collaborative, student-centered faculty committed to teaching excellence, applied scholarship, and community engagement. Our faculty combine scholarly engagement with commitment to student success, connect classroom instruction to professional practice, and involve students in applied or experiential learning. Effective communication, collaboration, and enthusiasm for student mentorship are central to our culture.
The successful candidate will teach undergraduate accounting courses including Principles of Accounting, Auditing, and Accounting Information Systems, with a teaching load of five courses per semester and summer teaching opportunities. Courses are delivered face-to-face, online, and at our extension campus in Rapid City. Instructors in the College of Business are expected to maintain Instructional Practitioner or Scholarly Practitioner qualifications consistent with AACSB standards. The college also offers opportunities to participate in student advising, mentorship, and engagement with student organizations such as Kicking Assets.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree (or higher) in Accounting or a Master’s degree in a related business field with substantial and demonstrable accounting experience.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Work experience in accounting
- Successful experience teaching, particularly at the undergraduate level
- Certified Public Accountant (CPA)
