Overview
The Souris Valley Animal Shelter is seeking a compassionate, reliable, and dedicated individual to join our dynamic team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about animal care and play a key role in performing essential administrative tasks, and delivering outstanding customer service. The ideal candidate will work closely with the Severson Ahart Community Clinic (SACC) team, as well as with the SVAS team in order to ensure a smooth working relationship within the shelter setting. Key Responsibilities:
Animal Care & Assistance:
- Prepare treatment logs for shelter and pound animals and document/track all upcoming appointments, vaccinations, etc.
- Maintain city pound tracker and assist with reporting.
- Learn SVAS software and be able to document and input all medical information into ASM.
- Clean kennels, provide enrichment, and help and with visitors as needed.
- Complete rounds on shelter animals that are currently sick or receiving treatment under the SACC veterinarian.
- Be able to communicate efficiently with SACC and SVAS staff regarding shelter animal care, treatment, and progress.
- Communicate any changes to shelter animal’s medical status to both SACC and SVAS teams.
- Provide care for animals before, during, and after treatments, ensuring their comfort and well-being.
- Administer medications, injections, and treatments as directed by the veterinarian.
- Prepare examination rooms, medical instruments, and surgical equipment for procedures.
- Create and maintain adoption folders, including necessary documentation (microchip forms, rabies certificates, etc.).
- Complete additional minor tasks and projects as needed to support clinic operations and SVAS.
- Assist the medical team with procedures, surgeries, and appointments as needed.
Client Communication & Education:
- Communicate clearly with pet owners/fosters/adopters/SVAS staff about their pets' medical status, treatment plans, and post-care instructions.
- Educate clients/fosters/adopters/SVAS staff on preventative care, proper nutrition, and medication administration.
- Handle client/shelter/medical staff members with professionalism, empathy, and excellent communication skills, whether in person, by phone, or via email.
Administrative Support:
- Process payments, maintain financial records, and assist with other administrative tasks.
- Maintain inventory of medical supplies and medications to ensure proper stock levels.
- Enter and update detailed medical records, including treatments, vaccinations, and scanned intake forms.
- Ensure cleanliness and organization of all clinic and shelter areas, including examination rooms, surgical spaces, and equipment.
- Schedule appointments, manage patient files, and ensure all information is up-to-date and accurate
- Communicate and assist SVAS staff with proper cleaning procedures and protocols for any biosecurity matters.
Team Collaboration:
- Work closely with both the shelter team, and the medical team, to ensure efficient and effective daily operations.
- Foster a positive and supportive work environment by collaborating with all team members at SVAS.
- Assist with various minor tasks and projects to help the clinic and shelter run smoothly.
