About the Role
An established healthcare organization is seeking a Vice President, Finance to oversee financial operations across its Central and South regions, including acute-care hospitals, critical access hospitals, medical groups, and other healthcare business units.
This senior leadership role is responsible for regional financial performance, budgeting, forecasting, financial reporting, expense management, and strategic planning. The position partners closely with regional and system leadership to identify opportunities for revenue growth, cost optimization, service development, geographic expansion, acquisitions, diversification, and improvement of operating margins.
The VP of Finance serves as a strategic financial advisor to regional leadership and plays a key role in ensuring the long-term financial health and operational effectiveness of the regions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead financial operations and monitor performance against annual operating budgets.
- Analyze financial performance, operations, policies, systems, and procedures to identify improvement opportunities.
- Provide strategic financial leadership, guidance, and recommendations to regional leadership.
- Partner with regional Presidents and leadership teams on business planning, financial decision-making, and problem-solving.
- Prepare, implement, and monitor annual operating budgets across multiple funding sources.
- Develop and deliver regional board-level financial reports and presentations.
- Forecast regional revenue and expense streams and identify emerging financial trends.
- Lead initiatives focused on revenue growth, expense reduction, operating margin improvement, and overall financial performance.
- Oversee the preparation and distribution of management, financial, accounting, and budget reports.
- Collaborate with leadership to develop financial strategies and business plans for key service lines.
- Support volume growth and improvements in operating margins.
- Develop business plans aligned with broader organizational strategy and regional growth objectives.
- Evaluate opportunities involving geographic expansion, service development, acquisitions, diversification, and potential divestment of unprofitable services.
- Maintain current knowledge of applicable healthcare regulations, standards, and financial requirements.
- Ensure compliance with institutional policies, regulations, and applicable healthcare standards.
- Apply knowledge of Critical Access Hospitals and Rural Health Clinics to regional financial planning and operations.
- Support the annual cost-reporting process, including the specific requirements and financial considerations of acute-care hospitals, critical access hospitals, and rural health clinics.
- Monitor operational and financial performance and recommend improvements.
- Provide organizational leadership around customer service performance and incentive programs.
- Collaborate with system-level teams on strategic and financial planning initiatives.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance or a related field.
- Master’s degree in a related discipline preferred.
- Minimum 10 years of healthcare finance experience.
- Minimum 5 years of relevant leadership experience.
- Strong understanding of healthcare financial operations.
- Knowledge of Critical Access Hospitals and Rural Health Clinics.
- Experience with healthcare financial and operational systems such as Epic and Power BI.
- Strong proficiency with standard business technology, including word processing, spreadsheets, email, web-based systems, and ERP platforms.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work effectively with a wide range of stakeholders and leadership levels.
- Strong analytical, financial planning, and problem-solving capabilities.
