What are the responsibilities and job description for the Senior Research Scientist position at SoTalent?
Our client, a long-established organisation recognised for its scientific and engineering leadership in managing property-related risks, partners with major global companies to strengthen resilience against natural and operational hazards. Through advanced research and technical insight, the organisation supports businesses in making informed decisions that help minimise disruptions and protect critical assets.
About the Role
A specialised research team focused on structural behaviour and natural hazard impact is seeking an experienced scientist to lead work in wind engineering, with a particular emphasis on computational methods. This position is suited to someone who thrives on solving complex fluid-dynamics problems, enjoys exploring new modelling approaches, and can translate scientific findings into practical applications.
The role contributes to a multi-year research effort aimed at deepening understanding of wind-related risks and developing strategies that improve resilience across a wide range of structures and environments. Projects frequently combine numerical simulations with experimental or field validation, offering opportunities for innovative, high-impact research.
Key Responsibilities
- Build and refine advanced CFD models to study airflow patterns and aerodynamic behaviour around buildings and infrastructure.
- Assess wind loads and structural response using numerical simulations, comparing results with experimental data when available.
- Work closely with colleagues across engineering, modelling, and risk analysis teams to integrate wind-related insights into design guidance and resilience frameworks.
- Share findings through technical papers, presentations, and contributions to major scientific or industry events.
- Support the development of long-term research strategies and help guide future innovation in wind-hazard assessment.
What We’re Looking For
- Doctorate in Mechanical, Civil, Aerospace Engineering, or another discipline strongly aligned with fluid dynamics or structural aerodynamics.
- Practical experience using both open-source and commercial CFD tools (e.g., OpenFOAM, ANSYS Fluent).
- Strong programming skills, ideally with experience in languages such as C , Python, MATLAB, or R.
- Familiarity with high-performance computing environments and running large-scale simulations.
- Experience working with wind tunnel experiments or field measurement campaigns is highly beneficial.
- Knowledge of structural design standards or wind-related regulations is an advantage.
- A solid publication record and the ability to communicate technical concepts clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Creative problem-solver with the ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across diverse teams.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary will be determined based on experience, location, technical background, and qualifications. The role is part of a comprehensive rewards programme that includes performance incentives, extensive wellbeing benefits, retirement plans, development support, tuition assistance, flexible working options, and competitive paid leave.
