About the Role

A leading healthcare organization is seeking a Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) / Medical Laboratory Technician (MLT) to join its Core Laboratory team. This position is responsible for processing and preparing specimens, performing laboratory testing, maintaining quality standards, and supporting accurate diagnostic results used in patient care.

The role offers a structured 7-on/7-off day-shift schedule, making it well suited to laboratory professionals who value extended blocks of time off.

Key Responsibilities

• Receive, prepare, and process patient specimens in accordance with established protocols.
• Perform routine and specialized laboratory testing accurately and within required turnaround times.
• Analyze and document quality control results and perform instrument maintenance and troubleshooting.
• Evaluate test performance and results, taking appropriate corrective action when required.
• Maintain laboratory equipment through calibration, monitoring, and routine maintenance.
• Follow applicable laboratory regulations, accreditation standards, safety requirements, and compliance procedures.
• Support continuous improvement and performance initiatives through data collection and analysis.
• Assist with inventory management, including laboratory supplies and reagents.
• Maintain accurate documentation, including corrective actions and quality records.
• Perform phlebotomy procedures where applicable.
• Maintain strict confidentiality of patient information.
• Adapt communication and approach appropriately when interacting with patients and healthcare teams.
• Stay current with applicable federal, state, and local regulations and laboratory accreditation requirements.
• Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

Education

• Bachelor's degree in Medical Technology, Medical Laboratory Science, Clinical Laboratory Science, or a related chemical, physical, or biological science field.
• Official academic transcript required.

Experience

• No prior professional experience required.

Certification

• Current state license, where applicable.
• ASCP, AMT, or AAB generalist certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist or Medical Technologist.
• For designated academic medical center facilities, applicable categorical or individual-discipline certification may be accepted.

Work Environment & Physical Requirements

This is an on-site laboratory position within a healthcare environment. The role involves prolonged periods of standing and sitting, as well as bending, reaching, stooping, and manual dexterity.

The position may involve:

• Handling and processing biological specimens.
• Exposure to blood, body fluids, and tissue.
• Potential exposure to communicable diseases and hazardous materials.
• Working flexible schedules, including weekends, holidays, and other coverage requirements.
• Traveling between facilities when required.
• Moving materials using appropriate mechanical lifting equipment or team-lift procedures.
