AI & Data Associate Director – Energy Providers EM&V
Salary: $135,000 – $225,000 Bonus Comprehensive Benefits
Location: United States (Travel up to 10%)
A leading consulting organisation is seeking an experienced Associate Director to join its growing AI & Data practice, specialising in Evaluation, Measurement & Verification (EM&V) for utility energy efficiency and demand-side management programmes.
This is a unique opportunity for a commercially minded leader with deep expertise in EM&V, advanced analytics and the energy sector. You will lead complex client engagements, drive business growth and manage multidisciplinary teams delivering innovative solutions across energy efficiency, demand response, electrification, renewable energy, EV charging, energy storage and decarbonisation initiatives.
The Role
As Associate Director, you will oversee the successful delivery of large-scale evaluation programmes while helping clients maximise the impact of their energy investments through data-driven insights and advanced analytical approaches.
You will play a key role in business development, client relationship management and practice growth, working directly with utility providers, regulators and executive stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead end-to-end EM&V engagements from methodology design through execution and final reporting
• Oversee evaluations of complex utility portfolios covering energy efficiency, demand response, load management, renewable energy, EV, storage and electrification programmes
• Develop and implement innovative evaluation methodologies using advanced analytics and AI-driven approaches
• Present findings and strategic recommendations to senior client stakeholders and regulatory bodies
• Manage project budgets, timelines, resource allocation and delivery quality
• Drive new business opportunities through relationship development, proposal creation and strategic pursuits
• Expand existing client relationships and identify opportunities for additional services
• Mentor and develop multidisciplinary teams including consultants, data scientists and engineers
• Contribute to thought leadership and the continued growth of the AI & Data practice
About You
• 7 years' experience within the energy sector
• 5 years' experience leading DSM programme evaluations
• Deep understanding of utility customer programme evaluation methodologies
• Expertise across demand response, load management, energy efficiency, renewable energy, EV programmes, storage, decarbonisation and electrification initiatives
• Strong business development and client relationship management experience
• Proven ability to manage large-scale consulting engagements from proposal through delivery
• Excellent stakeholder management and presentation skills
Technical Requirements
• Experience with Python, R, SQL or similar analytical tools
• Strong understanding of data visualisation tools such as Power BI, R Shiny or Dash
• Experience with GitHub and modern development workflows
• Familiarity with AI tools such as ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini or Copilot
• Ability to translate complex technical findings into actionable business recommendations
Desirable Experience
• AI and Machine Learning applications
• Cloud and data platforms including Snowflake, Databricks, AWS, Azure or Google Cloud
• Advanced analytics and predictive modelling
• PMP certification
• AI or Large Language Model certifications
