Role Summary

The Trimming/Packaging Technician plays a critical role in the post-harvest workflow, ensuring cannabis flower is properly processed, accurately tracked, and compliantly packaged for sale. This role requires a high level of attention to detail, physical stamina, and a working understanding of seed-to-sale compliance requirements. The ideal candidate brings a quality-first mindset, adapts readily to evolving regulatory standards, and thrives in a fast-paced production environment.

 

Roles and Responsibilities

Trimming and Processing

  • Hand-trim cannabis flower to meet established quality standards

  • Maintain a minimum output of 2 lbs per day for hand trimming; output expectations may very by method and product type

  • Inspect flower for pests, mold, and quality defects; escalate non-conforming product to the Post Harvest Manager

  • Support drying and curing operations as directed, including monitoring and logging environmental conditions (temperature, humidity)

 

Packaging and Labeling

  • Prepare packaging materials and set up workstations prior to each production run

  • Fill, seal, and label flower products including bulk flower, pre-rolls, eighths, and jars

  • Verify that all packages include correct strain, batch number, net weight, and state-required warnings for applicable regulations

  • Inspect labels for accuracy, legibility, and proper placement before product leaves the station

  • Ensure child-resistent and tamper-evident packaging standards are met on all finished goods

 

Sanitation and Safety

  • Follow all facility sanitation SOPs, including cleaning and sanitizing trim equipment, tools, bins, and workstations between batches and at the end of each shift

  • Use appropriate PPE, including gloves and respiratory protection where required, in compliance with OSHA Hazard Communication standards and facility-specific protocols

  • Handle sharp tools (scissors, shears) safely at all times; follow all sharps handling and storage procedures

  • Maintain a clean and organized production area throughout the shift

  • Report any report hazards, equipment malfunctions, or injury risks to a supervisor immediately

 

General

  • Adapt quickly to changes in strain, product format, workflow priorities, or packaging requirements

  • Bucking cannabis off stem

  • Taking down the dry room

  • Support a positive team environment through reliable attendance, self-motivation, and collaborative communication

  • Complete any additional duties as assigned by the Post Harvest Manager

 

Qualification Requirements

Required

  • Must be 21 years of age or older

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a valid state cannabis employee licensing/badge as required by jurisdiction

  • Ability to perform repetitive fine motor tasks (trimming, filling, labeling) for extended periods

  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions with precision

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality and compliance standards

  • Ability to maintain focused and productive throughout an 8-hour shift

  • Ability to safely handle sharp trimming tools

  • Ability to adapt to changes in product, workflow, or regulatory direction

 

Preferred

  • 1 year of experience in a cannabis production, food manufacturing, or regulated

  • Familiarity with tracking platforms

  • Basic understanding of state cannabis packaging and labeling requirements

  • ServSafe certification or equivalent food handling knowledge

 

Physical Demands

  • Must be able to sit and/or stand for up to 8 hours per shift

  • Must be able to perform sustained hand and wrist movements with above-average dexterity throughout the shift

  • Must be able to regularly lift, carry, push, and pull up to 35 lbs

  • Must be able to see, hear, talk, walk, push, pull, twist, squat, and climb a ladder

  • Frequent bending, reaching, and light physical activity associated with production floor work

 

Work Environment

  • Indoor cannabis production facility; exposure to cannabis plant material, pollen, and dust is inherent to this role

  • Respiratory sensitization risks associated with trimming and processing operations; PPE will be provided and is required where applicable

  • Temperature and humidity conditions vary; some areas of the facility are environmentally controlled

  • Repetitive motion environment; ergonomic tools and workstation setups are provided where feasible
