A rapidly expanding commercial electrical contractor near Keasbey, NJ, is seeking an Assistant Controller.
Partnering with the Controller and CFO, this person will strengthen and scale the company’s accounting operations, with a strong emphasis on process optimization, controls, and reporting efficiency. This plays a key part in enhancing the monthly close, improving financial visibility, and ensuring GAAP-compliant reporting.

Responsibilities:
- Drive continuous improvement across the accounting function, identifying and implementing enhancements to close processes, reconciliations, and financial reporting workflows
- Support the preparation and timely delivery of monthly financial statements in accordance with GAAP, improving accuracy and cycle time
- Oversee critical components of the month-end close, including review of journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules, while streamlining processes where possible
- Own and enhance reconciliation processes for key accounts, proactively identifying discrepancies, resolving issues, and strengthening documentation standards
- Develop, standardize, and maintain clear process documentation and internal control procedures, ensuring audit-ready support and consistency across the function
- Partner with internal and external auditors by improving the efficiency, organization, and accessibility of audit support and deliverables
- Manage banking operations, including optimization of payment processes, controls, and cash disbursement workflows
- Act as a central point for resolving accounting and operational issues, driving root cause analysis and implementing long-term solutions
- Lead and execute special projects focused on system improvements, reporting automation, and process scalability
- Enhance reporting capabilities by improving workpaper structure, data visibility, and ERP/system utilization
- Travel between New Jersey and New York offices as needed; consistent on-site presence required
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
- CPA or CPA-track strongly preferred
- 5 years of accounting experience; construction industry experience preferred, especially with job costing and WIP reporting
- Demonstrated success in improving accounting processes, controls, or reporting efficiency
- Advanced Excel skills (e.g., PivotTables, XLOOKUP, INDEX/MATCH, financial modeling)
- ERP experience required; Vista Viewpoint strongly preferred
- Strong analytical mindset with a focus on accuracy, problem-solving, and continuous improvement
- Proven ability to collaborate cross-functionally, particularly with Accounting and Project Operations teams
- High level of accountability and alignment with company policies, procedures, and values
Salary : $100,000 - $135,000
