What are the responsibilities and job description for the Solid Waste Code Inspector position at Solid Waste Management?
Position Summary
Inspect and enforce various City ordinances to support improvement and compliance of neighborhoods and cleanliness through environmental design; perform plan checking activities; perform solid waste review and field inspections; prepare various reports related to inspections.

Minimum Education, Experience And Additional Requirements
Education and experience directly related to the minimum requirements below may be interchangeable on a year for year basis.
Associate's degree from an accredited college or university in business, communications, or construction management technology; and
Four (4) years of solid waste collections operations or code inspection experience.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.
Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.
Preferred Knowledge
- Pertinent Federal, State and local laws, codes, regulations and ordinances
- Comprehensive zoning code
- Methods and techniques of code enforcement and supporting field inspection and investigation techniques
- Standard legal issues relating to inspections, court appearances and notifications
- Modern office procedures, methods and equipment including computers
- Occupational hazards and standard safety issues

- Perform code enforcement and field inspections
- Prepare clear and concise letters and reports
- Read and interpret blueprints/specifications of enclosures
- Interpret, apply and enforce Federal, State and local laws, codes and ordinances
- Review and interpret ordinance and code amendments

- Respond to requests and inquiries from the general public
- Communicate clearly and concisely
- Perform the essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodation
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work
