The New Mexico State Fire Marshals Office consists of four Bureaus, Fire Service Support, Code Enforcement, Fire Investigations, and the Firefighters Training Academy.
This position is for the State Fire Marshal Office Code Enforcement Bureau.
This posting will be used for ongoing recruitment and may close at any time. Applicant lists may be screened more than once.
Why does the job exist?
The primary purpose of this position is to perform fire and life safety inspections on public occupancies according to state law in. This job requires weekly travel for up to 5 days a week to perform these inspections. This position may be assigned other duties that will not interfere with the primary job duties stated above. This job is a critical function of this agency as fire inspections help maintain public safety throughout the State of New Mexico.
How does it get done?
Perform fire and life safety inspections in accordance with 10.25.5 NMAC. This includes inspections of all public occupancies within the State of New Mexico as assigned which requires weekly travel up to 5 days a week. Also include the commissioning of new construction projects.

Minimum Qualification
Associate degree in Fire Science from an accredited college or university and four (4) years of experience in fire service to include Code Enforcement or Inspections. Any combination of education from an accredited college or university in a related field and/or direct experience in this occupation totaling six (6) years may substitute for the required education and experience.
Employment Requirements
Employment is subject to background check and is conditional pending results. Must possess and maintain a valid Driver's License with no limitations or restrictions. Must possess and maintain a current Defensive Driving Course Certificate from the State of New Mexico or must pass and receive Defensive Driving Course Certification as a condition of continued employment. Must obtain IFSAC Inspector I certification within the first year of hire.
Working Conditions
Work is performed in both the field and office setting, all types of weather conditions. Extensive statewide travel state per diem will be utilized during travel arrangement. Electronic inspection data entry, extensive use of portable electronic devices.
