About The Role
This virtual Sign Language Interpreter (SLI) position supports K–12 students across Oregon by providing remote communication access in educational settings. The role focuses on facilitating effective communication between students who are deaf or hard of hearing and their instructional teams while supporting accessibility and educational participation.
Responsibilities
- Provide real-time virtual sign language interpreting during classroom instruction and school activities
- Support student access in individual, small-group, and whole-class settings
- Collaborate with teachers, special education staff, and related service providers
- Follow IEPs and communication plans to support student needs
- Maintain accurate service documentation and scheduling records
- Participate in virtual meetings related to student support and educational planning
- Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter or equivalent credential
- Eligibility to work as a school-based interpreter in Oregon
- Proficiency in ASL and educational interpreting practices
- School-based interpreting experience preferred
- Virtual or remote interpreting experience preferred
- Teaching certification may be required depending on district.
- Fully remote school-based assignment
- Consistent schedule aligned with the academic calendar
- Clear expectations focused on accessibility and communication support
- No onsite travel or commuting required
