Desired Qualifications
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and familiarity with contemporary interpreting techniques
- National or state certification (such as EIPA, RID, or equivalent) preferred
- Previous experience interpreting in educational or school settings
- Ability to accurately and impartially interpret spoken classroom content into ASL, and vice versa
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to maintain confidentiality
- Professionalism, flexibility, and a genuine commitment to student success
- Provide interpreting services for students in classroom settings, assemblies, meetings, and extracurricular activities
- Collaborate with teaching staff and support personnel to fully understand and convey lesson content and classroom discussion
- Support students’ participation in classwork, instructions, peer interactions, and school functions
- Adapt interpreting style and vocabulary based on student needs, grade levels, and lesson complexity
- Uphold ethical standards and adhere to policies regarding confidentiality and student privacy
- Participate in relevant training, meetings, or student support teams as needed
