What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Staff Development (DSD) position at SOLHEIM LUTHERAN HOME?
JOB SUMMARY: Assists Solheim Senior Community Community to the success of Solheim by effectively
planning, organizing, coordinating, and directing the development, presentation,
documentation and evaluation of in-service training for all staff in accordance with
Federal. State, local regulations, and Solheim policy.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Develop and participate in the planning, conducting, and scheduling of orientation programs that orient newly hired personnel to their position, the facility’s policies and procedures, resident rights and responsibilities, etc.
- Responsible for development, presentation and evaluation of weekly in-service classes for CNA staff, and for in-service training for other facility staff as requested or required by regulation or company policy.
- Responsible for documentation of all in-service classes and for the training record of individual CNA’s.
- Follows up with the nursing staff licenses and certifications to ensure compliance with the Federal, State, and local regulations.
- Works with Director of Nursing and the Quality Assurance Committee to determine in-house training needs for staff for the improvement of resident clinical outcomes.
- Assist the Administrator in developing the Nurse Aide Training curriculum used by the facility. Submit to state agency as required.
- Ensure that all personnel attend and participate in annual facility in-service training programs (e.g., OSHA, TB, HIPAA, Abuse Prevention, Safety, Infection Control, Fire and Disaster Preparedness, etc.)
- Ensure that copies of lesson plans are filed in accordance with facility’s policy and procedures.
- Implement recommendations from the Quality Assessment and Performance Improvement Committee as they relate to the educational needs of the facility.
- Responsible for interviewing and hiring qualified CNAs.
- Supervise CNA and RNA work performance by doing daily rounds, interviews and observations of CNA/RNA tasks and responsibilities.
- Develop monthly Licensed Nurses and CNA schedules and daily staff assignments.
- Make the CNA assignment, assign resident room numbers each shift and revise accordingly.
- Update/revise CNA job duties in daily shift assignments as needed.
- Assign meal breaks and rest periods on daily assignment sheets for Licensed Nurses and CNAs. Maintain, monitor, document and daily posting 7 days a week of the Daily Hours per Patient Per Day (DHPPD) according to regulatory standards.
- Complete CNA/RNA performance evaluation per facility policy.
- Upload electronically information of the hours worked by Consultants (Dietitian and Pharmacist), Medical Director, Rehabilitation Staff, Dentist, Podiatrist and Mental Health Workers for Payroll Based Journal submission before the monthly due date.
- Notify Human Resources as soon as all information for PBJ submission has been electronically entered.
- Check and submit CNA worked hours for payroll processing before due date every 2 weeks.
- Assist in testing of employees for COVID-19 per County’s guidance and requirements.
- Maintains regular and consistent attendance.
- Adheres to Compliance Plan and HIPAA regulations.
- Takes on special projects as needed
- Performs other duties as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
- High school graduate or equivalent.
- Graduate of an accredited nursing school and currently licensed as an LVN in California
- Minimum of one-year full-time experience as a licensed nurse providing direct resident care in a long-term healthcare facility
- Minimum of one-year full-time experience in planning, implementing, and evaluating educational programs in the field of nursing, OR
- Two years of full-time experience as a licensed nurse, at least one year of which must be in the
provision of direct resident care in a nursing facility and within six (6) months of employment, and
prior to teaching a certification program, the Director of Staff Development must obtain a minimum
of 24 hours of continuing education in nursing courses in planning, implementing, and evaluating
educational programs in nursing.
