CHP Operator
SCOPE:
The CHP Operator will perform functions to safely assist the operations of power boilers/re-heat power boiler and all associated cogeneration and CHP equipment to support the Paper Mill process. They help the supervisor ensure the maintenance of technical efficiency and safety level of the thermal power station, for the achievement of aims related to the productive activity in accordance with the Group’s policies
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Supports Sofidel America’s Good Manufacturing Practices and HACCP to promote a safe, sanitary and hygienically sound workplace.
- Guarantee the correct functioning of the CHP (Central Heating Plant).
- Ensure reliable operation of equipment by utilizing the following best practices: root cause failure analysis and action item implementation, precision maintenance practices, vibration analysis, lubrication analysis, preventive maintenance, and routine and annual outage planning.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability on reciprocating engines, pumps, valves, compressors, packaged boiler and small scale HRSG steam systems.
- Coordinates and manages contractors during overhauls or other contract work.
- Works to help manage a maintenance program to complete preventative, predictive and corrective maintenance tasks.
- Responsible for diagnosing malfunctions of facility machinery and equipment.
- Communicates with fuel gas suppliers, electrical utility and paper mill personnel in regard to dispatch level of the facility.
- Respond to and lead recovery efforts during planned and forced outages.
- Works collaboratively with the EHS Manager to coordinate all Air permitting requirements for all emission units. There are many requirements (but not limited to) air stack testing as required, all maintenance records, gas usage of all emission units, and hours of operation.
- Ensure that all relevant maintenance activities are carried out in compliance with the safety and environment provisions and with the procedures encompassed by the ISO 9001 Quality System.
- Guarantee efficiency in ordinary and extraordinary maintenance interventions, also managing the maintenance activities carried out by external firms in accordance with the “Corporate Master Agreement”.
- Responsible and managing budget for his/her area of influence.
- Generate production and performance reports, maintain required environmental records
- Recommends and implements measures to improve production methods, equipment, performance and quality.
- Promote a safety-bound corporate culture.
- Promote the Corporate Principles and Values.
OTHER DUTIES MAY INCLUDE:
- Perform or assist with any operations, as required to maintain workflow and to meet schedules and quality requirements. Notify supervision of unusual equipment or operating problems and the need for additional material and supplies.
- Maintain safe work area and comply with safety procedures and equipment operating rules keeping work area in a clean and orderly condition.
- Participate in any variety of meetings and work groups to integrate activities, communicate issues, obtain approvals, resolve problems and maintain specified level of knowledge pertaining to new developments, requirements, policies, and regulatory guidelines.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
- Assisting supervisor in special projects/down day activities/upset conditions
- Rounds outside of scope of normal operator rounds – ex. walking entire length of steam lines to look for steam leaks
- Vacation coverage for shifts not covered by either unit on a volunteer basis – in event of multiple operators off at same time and unable to cover both, would cover instead of operator with highest number of OT days worked
- Helping with preventetive maintenance measures and diagnosing maintenance issues that require maintenance/contractor intervention
- Cover to facilitate cross-training between units
- Cover to faciltate involvement in Safety groups/activities/training - optional
- Cover to allow operators to observe papermaking process to further understanding of importance of cooperation between departments – optional
- Possible schedule of Monday – Thursday 7a - 5p outside of operational emergency/vacation coverage/operational need
REQUIREMENTS:Three (3) years experience in a manufacturing environment preferred
- Detailed knowledge of industrial safety and environmental procedures and regulations
- Thorough knowledge of power boilers, water treatment, steam systems, and turbine generators
- Must possess a Stationary Steam Engineers License
- Must possess forklift license

WORK ENVIRONMENT
Personal protective equipment (PPE) is required when in the plant and warehouse areas. PPE will include safety shoes, eye and ear protection, reflective vests and hairnets or hats along with any other necessary protection. Temperatures in the plant/warehouse can range a great deal from season to season. The employee will be exposed to considerable paper dust and employees will also be exposed to noise levels that will require hearing protection.
