The Analytical Chemist reporting to R&D Director. The Analytical Chemist is responsible for performing development and validation of analytical process.


Responsibilities

  • The Analytical Chemist will be responsible for maintaining all existing and new chemical instrumentation by performing routine maintenance and working with instrument manufacturers to perform necessary repairs. The current list of instruments includes:
    • Liquid Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (LC/MS)
    • Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry (GC/MS)
    • Gas Chromatography/Flame Ionization (GC/FID)
    • Inductively Coupled Plasma (ICP-OES)
    • Atomic Absorption (AA)
    • Particle Size Analysis
    • Microwave Digestion
    • Infrared Spectroscopy (FTIR)
    • Carbon/Nitrogen Analysis
    • Carbon/Sulfur Analysis
    • Thermo-gravimetric Analysis (TGA)
  • As the need for new instrumentation arises, the Analytical Chemist will work with the relevant laboratory managers to find the instrument most suited to the application and will be responsible to oversee installation of the equipment. Furthermore, the Analytical Chemist will develop and maintain training documents and records for use of all instrumentation.
  • In addition to instrument maintenance and calibration, the Analytical Chemist will work closely with the R&D Director in order to develop methods for testing of a wide range of products, provide analytical support to the applications group, and establish quality control protocols.
    • Perform regular preventative maintenance on laboratory analytical equipment (GC/FID, GC/MS, LC/MS, ICP-OES, Microwave, XRF, Laser Diffraction Particle Size Analysis, Elemental Analysis, and FTIR).
    • Work with instrument manufacturers to schedule and perform required repairs to analytical equipment.
    • Perform routine analyses using GC/FID, GC/MS, LC/MS, ICP-OES, Microwave, XFR, Laser Diffraction Particle Size Analysis, Elemental Analysis and FTIR.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES:

  • REQUIREMENTS: BS in Chemistry required, MS in Analytical Chemistry preferred.
  • A minimum of two years of working in an analytical laboratory (academic experience will be considered).
  • General knowledge of gas chromatography, liquid chromatography, mass spectrometry and elemental analysis techniques.
  • Ability to develop analytical methods.
  • Ability to operate and maintain analytical instrumentation.
  • Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint literacy is required, as well as the ability to utilize analytical instrumentation software.
  • Maintain precise records of instrument maintenance and calibration to comply with ISO 9001.
  • Must be able to communicated and work well with other employees.
