What are the responsibilities and job description for the Mechanic II position at Smith County?
We are seeking an energetic Heavy Equipment Field Mechanic to join our team, who can change direction at a moment’s notice to maintain all heavy equipment to include but not limited to repairs, diagnosis, and troubleshooting. Mechanic: II operates heavy equipment for the purpose of repairs, modifications and preventative maintenance for the Road and Bridge department.
- Must be able to service and make in-depth repairs on various types of heavy construction equipment and may include large trucks and passenger vehicles as deemed appropriate by the Superintendent.
- Disassemble/Reassemble heavy and mobile equipment to troubleshoot, diagnose and repair
- Enter data for repairs, diagnosis, preventative maintenance, inventory check out and time
- Must be able to service and repair equipment in the field as deemed appropriate by the Superintendent.
- Fill in other areas as needed
- Must be able to Metal fabrication, utilize oxygen and acetylene torch, Mig / stick weld and braze
- Hydraulics Systems troubleshooting repair required
- Troubleshoot, repair and test all equipment to ensure functionality
- Must understand schematics to troubleshoot 12v&24v heavy equipment systems
- Must supply own hand tools
- High School diploma or G.E.D. (completed or in progress)
- At least 5 years of experience in equipment service and repair field.
Licenses and Certification
- Must have a valid driver's license
- Air Conditioning Certification or equivalent required
Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Ability to stand, walk, climb, stoop, bend, pull, reach and lift and carry items weighing 80lbs or more in an outdoor environment with exposures to severe extremes in weather.
