Our client, a growing multi-brand retail group with locations across several concepts, is seeking a Controller to lead their accounting, payroll, and HR functions. This role requires multi-unit restaurant industry experience. Candidates without direct leading restaurant/hospitality accounting background will not be considered
Title: Controller
Location: Medford, NY
Salary: $140,000 to $150,000
Responsibilities:
- Oversee financial statement preparation and review across multiple entities/locations
- Manage daily, weekly, and monthly accounting close processes, including bank and credit card reconciliations across entities
- Lead and mentor accounting, payroll, and HR staff
- Manage cash flow, intercompany transfers, and payroll clearing accounts
- Build and refine internal controls, policies, and procedures as the company scales
- Support financial planning and modeling for new unit openings, acquisitions, and expansion
- Oversee lease agreements, property taxes, and insurance across locations
- Lead internal/external audits and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations
Requirements:
- 5–7 years of financial management experience — multi-unit restaurant experience REQUIRED, not preferred
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA/CMA preferred)
- Hands-on proficiency with QuickBooks or comparable ERP systems
- Strong GAAP, internal controls, and financial reporting background
- Demonstrated leadership managing accounting and/or HR teams
