What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Device Production Technician position at SMC Medical Manufacturing?
Step Into a Day on the Line
When your shift starts, you suit up for a clean, climate-controlled production floor. You review the day’s schedule and standard work instructions, prep your station, and bring our customers’ specifications to life. Throughout your 12-hour day shift (8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m., rotating with two weekends per month), you operate equipment, inspect parts, and document every step to cGMP and GDP standards. When something isn’t right, you stop, escalate to your Cell Lead or Shift Supervisor, and help keep the line running safely and smoothly.
What You’ll Do
- Operate equipment to meet daily output, quality, and safety targets while following SWIs and SOPs.
- Read and interpret controlled manufacturing documentation to complete tasks in your work center.
- Perform visual inspections to identify defects per work instructions; notify the Cell Lead or QC when detected.
- Segregate and record nonconforming material using SMC’s Red Bin Procedure.
- Verify equipment functionality and alert leadership when performance issues arise.
- Keep your area clean, organized, and compliant with cleanroom procedures and safety practices.
- Maintain accurate records using proper GDP; follow standard work and cGMP guidelines.
- Learn and apply Lock Out/Tag Out as an affected employee.
- Demonstrate reliability, professionalism, and teamwork; perform other duties as assigned.
Grow Through Three Levels
Level I
- High School diploma or equivalent required.
- Read, write, speak, and comprehend English.
- Work effectively both independently and in teams; self-motivated.
- Clear written, verbal, and presentation skills.
- Strong attention to detail; high manual dexterity preferred.
Level II
- All Level I qualifications, plus 6 months of manufacturing experience (required).
Level III
- All Level II qualifications.
- Manufacturing experience in a cleanroom preferred.
- Capable of assisting Cell Leads with training and overseeing newer associates.
Physical Demands
- Bend, squat, climb, grasp, reach, lift, and move frequently for extended periods.
- Lift or move up to 50 lbs. frequently (more on occasion).
- Walk and stand continuously.
- Work around machine shop hazards and chemicals; respiratory protection may be required.
- Occasional seated work with keyboarding and fine grasping.
