Position Overview
BayHealth Hospital is seeking a skilled and patient-focused Echocardiographer to join its growing Cardiology team in Dover, Delaware. The Echocardiographer will perform a variety of non-invasive cardiac diagnostic procedures and provide high-quality patient care while working closely with cardiologists, physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals.
This role is responsible for conducting echocardiography studies, stress testing, EKGs, Holter monitoring, and other cardiac diagnostic procedures while maintaining the highest standards of patient safety, clinical excellence, and customer service.
Key Responsibilities
Echocardiography Services
- Perform high-quality echocardiographic examinations, including:
- Transthoracic Echocardiograms (TTE)
- M-Mode Echocardiography
- Doppler and Color Flow Doppler Studies
- Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE)
- Exercise Stress Echocardiography
- Pharmacologic Stress Echocardiography
- Ensure accurate image acquisition and documentation.
- Recognize abnormal findings and communicate appropriately to physicians.
Cardiac Diagnostic Testing
- Perform and assist with:
- Electrocardiograms (EKG)
- Holter Monitor Setup, Monitoring, and Analysis
- Cardiac Stress Testing
- Additional non-invasive cardiac procedures as assigned
- Operate and maintain cardiac diagnostic equipment according to departmental standards.
Patient Care
- Provide compassionate, age-specific care to patients across all age groups.
- Explain procedures and answer patient questions.
- Monitor patients throughout diagnostic procedures.
- Ensure patient comfort, safety, and confidentiality at all times.
Quality & Compliance
- Follow hospital policies, departmental procedures, and accreditation standards.
- Adhere to infection prevention and control guidelines.
- Maintain accurate patient records and billing documentation.
- Participate in quality assurance and performance improvement activities.
Education & Collaboration
- Serve as a clinical resource to physicians, nursing staff, and healthcare teams.
- Provide guidance and preceptorship to students from affiliated educational programs.
- Support departmental initiatives and process improvement efforts.
Required Qualifications
Certifications
- Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification.
- Active Registered Cardiac Sonographer (RCS) Credential.
Experience
- Successful completion of an Echocardiography/Cardiac Sonography certification program and/or
- Minimum 2 years of hands-on Echocardiography experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Certificate or Degree in Cardiovascular Sonography.
- Extensive hospital-based Echocardiography experience.
- Experience performing:
- Pediatric Echocardiography
- Neonatal Echocardiography
- Stress Echocardiography
- Transesophageal Echocardiography (TEE)
- Additional cardiac diagnostic testing experience.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
- Strong knowledge of cardiac anatomy, physiology, and pathology.
- Expertise in echocardiography imaging techniques and protocols.
- Ability to perform accurate diagnostic studies independently.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
