Private Pilot Ground Instructor

Job Overview

We are seeking a knowledgeable and enthusiastic Ground Instructor to join our aviation training team. The ideal candidate will have flight experience, hold a current FAA Basic Ground Instructor certificate, and be passionate about developing the next generation of pilots. In this role, you will deliver Private Pilot Ground School instruction, ensuring curriculum consistency while providing an engaging and supportive learning environment. You will prepare students for both the flight and knowledge examination portions of their training by presenting complex aviation concepts in a clear, practical, and effective manner.

Responsibilities

• Deliver engaging ground instruction in accordance with FAA Part 141 curriculum standards and requirements.
• Teach topics including aerodynamics, aircraft systems, aircraft maintenance fundamentals, weather, navigation, and Federal Aviation Regulations.
• Facilitate classroom discussions and interactive learning activities that reinforce student understanding.
• Evaluate student progress through written examinations, quizzes, projects, and other assessments.
• Provide mentorship and academic support to help students succeed throughout their training.
• Maintain accurate records of student attendance, progress, and performance.
• Collaborate with fellow instructors and staff to continuously improve curriculum, instructional methods, and student outcomes.
• Stay current with FAA regulations, industry best practices, and advancements in aviation education.

Please Note

This position is ground instruction only. While you will instruct student pilots, this role does not include flight instruction or opportunities to fly as part of your job duties.

Qualifications

• Current FAA Basic Ground Instructor (BGI) certificate required.
• Previous flight experience required.
• Previous flight instruction experience is highly preferred.
• Strong knowledge of aviation principles, aircraft systems, aircraft maintenance, and Federal Aviation Regulations.
• Excellent communication skills with the ability to explain technical concepts clearly and effectively.
• Strong organizational and classroom management skills.
• Ability to work effectively with students from diverse backgrounds, including a large population of military students.
• Passion for teaching and helping students achieve their aviation goals.

Schedule

Instructors typically work a rotating schedule of 12 consecutive days on followed by 9 consecutive days off.

• A typical instructional day consists of two classroom sessions: 7:00 a.m. – 9:00 a.m. & 12:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m.
• Additional lesson preparation, grading, or instructional time may be required based on student needs and program requirements.

• Current FAA Basic Ground Instructor (BGI) certificate or CFI certificate
• Previous flight experience
