Basic Function
The part-time horticultural care specialist is responsible for the health, maintenance, and overall care of trees and shrubs in specific parks that fall within certain parameters. This role requires a passion for horticulture, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Essential Duties
- Perform routine inspections and assessments of trees and shrubs to identify health issues, pests, and diseases.
- Develop and implement care plans, including pruning, fertilizing, watering, weeding, and pest management.
- Safely operate and maintain equipment such as handsaws, pruners, and watering equipment.
- Provide recommendations for tree and shrub planting, including species selection and site preparation.
- Collaborate with horticulture crew to ensure the health and aesthetic appeal of green spaces in designated zones.
- Maintain accurate records of all work performed, including treatments and inspections.
- Stay up-to-date with industry best practices, safety standards, and local regulations.
- Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Education: High School diploma or equivalent (GED) preferred.
Experience: Must be at least 18 years of age. Strong knowledge of tree and shrub species, diseases and pest management preferred.
Certifications: Valid Illinois Driver’s License required.
