Job Summary

Job Summary

Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age.
- Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Preference given to candidates with an Associates' Degree in the related field such as: Turf Management, Horticulture, and Urban Forestry.
- Minimum of three (3) years of experience in related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Must have a valid Driver's License.
- Must have a State of Illinois Pesticide Operator's License within six (6) months of hire.
- Must be CPR and AED certified within six (6) months of hire.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Employee will help supervise a variety of park maintenance such as, but not limited to: litter picking, weeding, raking, planting, pruning, watering, sweeping, cleaning, mulching, tree maintenance, snow removal, and other functions as needed.
- Employee must document labor hours and work performed.
- Employee must demonstrate and support the park district's mission statement, vision, and core values.
- Employee is responsible for manual labor, including, but not limited to, digging holes, spreading mulch, painting, raking leaves.
- Employee must perform ornamental horticulture maintenance, which includes, but not limited to, planting trees, pruning, watering, fertilization, maintaining landscape beds, and other horticulture tasks as needed.
- Employee may operate equipment and/or district vehicles to provide a variety of maintenance on, but not limited to district roads, parking lots and common sidewalks.
- Employee is responsible for the operation and preventive maintenance of park district vehicles, tractors, grounds equipment, implements, and ensuring it is performed and reported. The maintenance may include, but not limited to, washing, checking fluids, and any other maintenance as needed.
- Employee is responsible for the cleanliness and upkeep of District property, including vehicles, equipment, work spaces, buildings, and park space.
- Employee must perform all job tasks within the rules and guidelines of the Streamwood Park District's safety program.
- Employee must be available for other duties as assigned and/or as needed.
Secondary Duties & Responsibilities
- Employee, at times, is responsible for the operation of park district vehicles.
- Employee must obtain any other certifications required and/or needed within the timeframe specified by the Horticulture Supervisor.
Cognitive Considerations
- Employee must be able to follow directions and communicate in English both verbally and in writing.
- Employee must have the ability to read and understand materials, such as maintenance and operators' manuals printed in English.
Psychological Considerations
- Employee must be able to work independently in day-to-day operations with general direction of the Horticulture Supervisor.
- Employee must have the ability to delegate work, where appropriate, in order to accomplish work most effectively.
- Employee must demonstrate leadership qualities to perform required work.
- Employee must be able to work in a team atmosphere, while promoting the Park District's mission statement, vision and core values.
- Employee must have the ability to maintain self-control and composure in difficult situations.

Environmental & Physical Demands
- Employee may be required to work both inside and outside during various environmental conditions, such as, but not limited to rain and mud, hot and cold temperatures, exposure to dust, fumes, dirt, and noise, insect bites and exposure to hazardous chemicals.
- Frequent operation and handling of assigned equipment, which may include, but is not limited to tractors, heavy equipment, trucks, automotive equipment, and various hand tools associated with park maintenance.
- Employee must have the physical agility to maintain mobility from site to site, and be able to perform moderate manual tasks.
- Employee may perform duties which include, but are not limited to prolonged lifting of at least 50 lbs., standing, stooping, bending, twisting, and climbing for extended periods of time.
