Digital Plant Engineer
Location: Indiana, USA (Hybrid)
Onsite Requirement: Minimum of 2 weeks per month onsite in Indiana during the first 6 months, reducing to 1 week per month thereafter
Contract Length: 2-Year Project Assignment
Rate/Budget: Flexible
Position Summary
We are looking for an experienced Digital Plant Engineer to support a large-scale pharmaceutical manufacturing project. This role will sit within the Automation Project Team and will be responsible for helping define and implement the site’s manufacturing systems, digital infrastructure, and data architecture strategy.
The successful candidate will work closely with Automation, PTO, Technical teams, and business stakeholders to ensure alignment between digital technologies, operational systems, and project objectives.
Main Responsibilities
- Support the alignment of business processes, technology platforms, and data architecture across the facility
- Act as the automation representative within Digital Plant workshops, meetings, and cross-functional discussions
- Assist in developing and implementing the project’s Digital Strategy roadmap
- Contribute to the design and development of the site data architecture and integration framework
- Lead data mapping and data flow coordination activities between systems
- Support deployment and integration of digital infrastructure platforms such as Aveva PI, Logmate, and related technologies
- Assist in defining the overall automation and digitalization approach for the project
- Support identification and development of Digital Plant and operational data use cases
- Provide regular updates on progress, technical challenges, and project requirements to the Automation Project Manager
- Deliver technical expertise and support to the broader Automation Team
- Collaborate with cross-functional stakeholders to ensure project deliverables meet operational and business requirements
- Ensure compliance with GMP standards, validation requirements, and internal procedures
Required Qualifications & Experience
- Degree in Engineering or equivalent relevant industry experience
- Minimum of 7 years’ experience in digital manufacturing, data architecture, or automation within pharmaceutical or biopharmaceutical environments
- Strong background in automation systems within API or bulk pharmaceutical manufacturing
- Previous involvement in large-scale pharmaceutical automation or digital transformation projects
- Good understanding of GMP compliance, regulatory expectations, and CSV methodologies
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Ability to work effectively across technical and non-technical teams
- Strong problem-solving and collaborative working approach
Desirable Experience
- Experience working with Emerson DeltaV Batch DCS
- Exposure to MES platforms and manufacturing execution systems
- Familiarity with Aveva PI and industrial historian technologies
- Experience supporting smart manufacturing or digital plant initiatives
