Steel Detailer (Structural / Platework)

Sirius Talent is seeking an experienced Steel Detailer to join an engineering and fabrication team supporting large-scale industrial projects. This role requires a strong background in structural steel and platework detailing and is intended for someone who can step in and contribute with minimal ramp-up. This is not an entry-level drafting position.
The position supports fabrication-driven projects serving power plants, paper mills, and refineries, including electrostatic precipitators (ESPs), baghouses, large-scale support structures, boiler buildings, heavy industrial ductwork, and multi-level access systems.
This is a contract-to-hire opportunity with long-term potential for the right candidate. It is well suited for a detailer with hands-on knowledge of steel fabrication and the ability to produce accurate, shop-ready drawings in a collaborative engineering environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Produce detailed shop drawings from design/engineering drawings for fabrication
- Detail components including structural steel, platework, panels, stairs, and walkway access systems
- Generate erection drawings for field installation and assembly
- Create material cut lists and burn table templates
- Apply basic AISC standard connection detailing based on engineer-provided loads
- Collaborate with engineers and designers to resolve design conflicts and fabrication challenges
- Manage and track drawing revisions
- Review and check drawings produced by other detailers for accuracy and completeness
- Ensure compliance with industry standards, safety protocols, and project specifications
Required Qualifications
- 5 years of experience in structural steel and/or platework fabrication detailing
- Strong proficiency in AutoCAD (2D detailing required)
- Working knowledge of steel fabrication processes, including welding and bolting
- Ability to read and interpret engineering and fabrication drawings
- Strong math skills, attention to detail, and problem-solving ability
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Clear communication skills in English
- US Citizenship required
- Must be able to work onsite (no remote work)
- No travel required
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with AISC standards and connection detailing
- Exposure to 3D detailing tools (Tekla, SDS/2, etc.)
- Vocational or technical training in drafting/design (or equivalent hands-on experience)
