Residential Flooring Installer

Sir Home Improvements
Portage, MI Full Time
POSTED ON 10/9/2026
AVAILABLE BEFORE 2/5/2027

Your Craftsmanship Should Be Worth More.

$21–$25/hour Performance-Based Earning Opportunities | Full-Time | Year-Round

If you know that a great flooring installation is about more than putting material on the floor, we want to talk to you.

The difference is in the prep, measurements, cuts, transitions, details, finish, and the way you leave the customer's home.

SIR Home Improvements is looking for Residential Flooring Installers to join our growing production team.

We're looking for people with experience in flooring, remodeling, construction, finish carpentry, or other hands-on trades who take pride in their work and want an opportunity to continue developing their skills.

For more than 45 years, SIR has helped homeowners transform their homes while building a team of skilled remodeling professionals.

Our philosophy is simple:

Hire for Personality. Train for Skill.

You don't have to know every product or process we use on day one. We provide paid hands-on training to teach you SIR's installation processes, quality standards, and expectations.

What matters is that you already understand what it means to work hard, pay attention to the details, take ownership of your work, and keep getting better.

Start at $21/Hour During Paid Training

You'll start at $21/hour during paid training while learning SIR's flooring installation processes and quality standards.

As you demonstrate your skills, consistently produce quality work, and take on greater responsibility, you'll have the opportunity to move into our performance-based compensation structure.

Top-performing installers can earn the equivalent of $50–$70 /hour.

Your earning potential can grow as you:

  • Improve your installation skills
  • Increase your productivity
  • Consistently produce quality work
  • Take on more responsibility
  • Learn additional remodeling skills
  • Demonstrate that you can be trusted to complete work correctly and efficiently

The more skilled and productive you become, the more opportunity you create for yourself.

What You'll Do

As a Residential Flooring Installer, you'll be responsible for helping transform customers' homes through professional flooring installation and finish work.

Depending on your experience and training, your responsibilities may include:

  • Installing luxury vinyl plank (LVP)
  • Installing laminate flooring
  • Installing hardwood and engineered hardwood
  • Installing tile and other residential flooring products
  • Removing existing flooring
  • Inspecting and preparing subfloors
  • Performing floor preparation and leveling
  • Measuring, cutting, fitting, and installing flooring
  • Installing transitions, trim, and finishing pieces
  • Identifying and addressing installation challenges
  • Following SIR installation processes and quality standards
  • Protecting floors, walls, furniture, and other areas of the customer's home
  • Maintaining a clean, organized, and safe work area
  • Completing projects efficiently without sacrificing quality
  • Performing final checks to make sure the finished work meets expectations
  • Communicating professionally with homeowners and other members of the production team

The Details Matter.

We aren't looking for someone who simply wants to get the material down and move on to the next job.

We want installers who understand that the finished product matters.

That means:

Good preparation.
Accurate measurements.
Clean cuts.
Proper installation.
Quality finishing.
Clean job sites.
Respect for the customer's home.

Those details are what separate someone who can install flooring from someone who can build a reputation as a great installer.

Experience That Transfers Well

We're especially interested in candidates with experience in:

  • Residential flooring installation
  • LVP installation
  • Luxury vinyl plank
  • Laminate flooring
  • Hardwood flooring
  • Engineered hardwood
  • Tile installation
  • Subfloor preparation
  • Floor leveling
  • Finish carpentry
  • Residential remodeling
  • Residential construction
  • General construction
  • Home improvement

If you've spent time working with your hands and understand the importance of accuracy, preparation, craftsmanship, and finishing details, your experience may transfer well to this position.

What We're Looking For

Experience matters.

But how you work matters just as much.

The installers who succeed at SIR tend to be people who:

  • Take pride in the finished product
  • Pay attention to the details others may overlook
  • Work efficiently without cutting corners
  • Show up prepared and ready to work
  • Can work independently without constant supervision
  • Take direction and apply feedback
  • Communicate when they encounter a problem
  • Take ownership when something goes wrong
  • Treat customers' homes with respect
  • Keep their work area clean and organized
  • Work well with a team
  • Look for ways to improve their skills
  • Can be trusted to do what they say they're going to do

We don't expect you to know everything.

We do expect you to care about doing the job right.

We Don't Expect Perfection. We Expect Ownership.

Every installer eventually runs into an unexpected issue.

A subfloor isn't what you expected.

A measurement doesn't work.

A material isn't cooperating.

Something doesn't look right.

That's when we want to see how you think.

At SIR, we expect our installers to stop, assess the situation, communicate when necessary, and find the right solution rather than covering up a problem or simply moving on.

If you make a mistake, own it.

If you don't know something, ask.

If someone shows you a better way, learn from it.

If you see something that needs attention, take care of it.

That's how good installers become great ones.
