The nurse identifies and treats health disorders among students and provides instruction in the maintenance of good health and disease prevention.
Essential Functions
- Assists school health committee and administrators in developing school health program.
- Participates in work of health curriculum committee.
- Conducts school programs of immunization, physical examinations, sight and hearing testing, and scoliosis screening.
- Maintain up-to-date cumulative health records on all students.
- Report to parents, school personnel, physicians, clinics, and other agencies on student health matters.
- Assumes authority in the absence of a physician for the care of a student or staff member who has suffered an injury or emergency illness.
- Administers first aid in accordance with established first aid procedures and provides medically prescribed services.
- Maintains security of school health supplies and records.
- Implement Board policy on exclusion and readmission of students in connection with infectious and contagious diseases.
- Participates in in-service training programs.
- Strictly adheres to confidentiality requirements regarding all matters pertaining to students, parents, and parent communications.
- Meets applicable district physical ability/health and safety guidelines for the position.
- Performs other duties/responsibilities as assigned by the building principal or Executive Director of Elementary Education.
- Certification or Licensure Licensed from the State of Missouri. Experience as a school nurse is preferred.
- Other requirements Must successfully pass a background check that is satisfactory to the Board of Education. Excellent organizational skills, oral and written skills, time management, and telephone skills. Computer knowledge and assistive technology.
