What are the responsibilities and job description for the Safety Manager position at Signature Construction LLC (A Pedcor Company)?
The Safety Director reports directly to the President and VP of Operations and the Safety Manager reports to the Safety Director. Together, the Safety Team has the following responsibilities:
- Manage Signature Construction’s Safety Program and coordinate its implementation with all Site Teams on all projects.
- Visit jobsites on a regular basis, especially during high hazard work. Assist the Superintendent with safety when deep excavations, framing, roofing, scaffolding/siding, steel erection, and other hazardous work activities are occurring. Site visits should follow the guidelines in the SOP Section, Periodic Safety Team Inspections.
- Be accessible via phone at all hours of the day as a resource for the Site Team.
- Be a resource to the Site Team and the Trade Contractors on the project. The Site Team and the Safety Team do not dictate means and methods of the Trade Contractors, however the Safety Team may Assist Trade Contractors in finding efficient solutions that are in compliance with OSHA regulations.
- Work closely with the Site Team to ensure Trade Contractors have a solid plan of attack for dealing with high hazard work on the project site.
- When necessary, stop or terminate any work in progress that would be considered an eminent danger situation on any project.
- Attend the project Preconstruction Meeting and conduct the safety portion.
- Strive to attend pre-planning and on-going meetings that pertain to high hazard work such as deep excavations, framing, roofing, scaffolding/siding, steel erection, etc.
- Supply all postings and Signature Construction safety equipment/PPE for the project.
- Assist with the compilation of required Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for Signature Construction. Confirm all SDS sheets are onsite for all Trade Contractors.
- Coordinate continuing education safety courses and training as required.
- Conduct New Hire Safety Orientations as needed.
- Compile and distribute Toolbox Talks and other safety information, articles and updates.
- Represent Signature Construction during site safety audits conducted by local, state and federal OSHA inspection authorities.
- Respond to all accidents (physical injuries and/or property damage) and near-miss incidents and provide detailed documentation as applicable.
- The Safety Team has the authority to administer Disciplinary Action as needed for items such as Site Team employees violating safety issues, directing unsafe activities, blatantly not enforcing safety violations, overlooking safety, etc.
- Coordinate with the Site Team, General Superintendent, Project Manager, and offending Trade Contractor(s) on all 2nd and 3rd Strike Safety Violations. Assist the Site Team with all communication regarding Safety Violations as required.
