Minimum Qualifications
Each Advanced Practitioner must possess:
- A Doctorate or Masters Degree in a medical field, such as Physician Assistant (PA), Nurse Practitioner (NP), or equivalent, from an accredited program.
- A current, unrestricted medical license in at least one (1) U.S. state relevant to the qualifying career path.
- Board certification PA or NP.
- Current credential or prior medical provider within the USCG healthcare network.
- A minimum of three (3) years of experience in medical record review, medical waiver adjudication, or military medical assessments.
- Familiarity with USCG and DoD medical policies, HIPAA compliance standards, and medical standard requirements for:
- Approved USCG commissioning physicals
- Retention physicals (PHAs)
- MHS GENESIS (MHSG), the electronic health record system used across the Military Health System.
- Joint Longitudinal Viewer (JLV), which provides access to integrated health histories across DoD, VA, and private sector partners.
- Additional specialty certifications in emergency medicine or behavioral health. Examples below: o National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA)
- American Academy of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANPCB)
- Psychiatric - Mental Health Nurse Practitioner (PMHNP-BC)
- Experience leading research projects focused on evaluating the outcomes of applicants granted medical waivers including assessment of training success, condition progression within the first year of service, and development of criteria tailored to USCG operations.
- Ability to review and analyze weekly discharge rosters to identify cases involving medical waivers and assess condition exacerbation during training.
- Demonstrated skill in providing constructive feedback
