Position Summary
The Speech-Language Pathology Assistant (SLPA) supports the delivery of speech and language services to students under the supervision of a licensed Speech-Language Pathologist. The SLPA assists in implementing treatment plans, documenting student progress, and supporting communication development to enhance student success.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Assist the supervising SLP in implementing individualized speech and language therapy plans
Provide direct therapy services to students as directed by the SLP
Prepare therapy materials and activities to support student goals
Document student performance and progress toward IEP goals
Maintain accurate and timely service logs and records
Support classroom integration of communication strategies
Assist with screenings (but not interpretation of results)
Observe and report student behaviors and progress to the SLP
Maintain confidentiality of student records in compliance with FERPA and district policies
Participate in team meetings, when appropriate, as directed by the SLP
Perform clerical duties such as scheduling, organizing materials, and filing
Non-Instructional / Compliance Responsibilities
Adhere to all district policies, procedures, and professional standards
Follow direction and supervision requirements outlined by Arizona Department of Education and licensing boards
Maintain appropriate boundaries of practice (does not diagnose, evaluate, or independently develop IEPs)
Ensure compliance with IDEA and special education regulations
Minimum Qualifications
Associate's degree in Speech-Language Pathology Assistant program or related field (as required by Arizona)
Valid Arizona SLPA certification/license (or ability to obtain prior to start)
Experience working with children or individuals with communication disorders preferred
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Basic understanding of speech and language development
Ability to follow treatment plans and professional direction
Strong interpersonal and communication skills
Ability to maintain accurate documentation
Organizational and time management skills
Ability to work collaboratively with staff, students, and families
Working Conditions
Primarily school-based environment
May involve lifting, positioning, or assisting students with physical needs
Frequent interaction with students requiring speech/language support
Physical Requirements
Ability to sit, stand, and move between classrooms
Ability to lift up to [insert weight, e.g., 25–50 lbs] as needed
Ability to engage with students in a variety of instructional settings
