What are the responsibilities and job description for the Intern - Transportation Analyst position at Shoppa's Material Handling?
The Transportation team is seeking a Summer 2026 intern to support an analytics initiative focused on optimizing fleet and
transportation performance. The project centers on developing a set of key transportation metrics — including Cost per Mile, Total
Cost of Ownership (TCO), Operating Ratio, Utilization Rate, and Revenue Miles Percentage — to provide a clear view of operational
efficiency and cost drivers. The intern will analyze existing data sources, define standardized calculation methods, and establish a
process for ongoing data collection. In addition, the intern will design and build Power BI dashboards that visualize performance
trends and enable data-driven decision making across the transportation network. This project will directly support efforts to improve
profitability, asset utilization, and overall transportation performance.
Essential Functions
The Transportation Analytics Intern will work within the Transportation team to develop reporting tools and visualizations
that measure and improve fleet performance. The intern’s primary focus will be building analytical frameworks and
dashboards that capture critical cost and utilization metrics. Responsibilities include:
supporting carrier performance reporting, and assisting with ad-hoc data requests. These activities will provide exposure to
transportation planning, financial analysis, and network optimization while reinforcing the connection between data insights and
operational execution.
This internship offers meaningful experience at the intersection of logistics and data analytics, providing both project ownership and
hands-on exposure to how analytics drive smarter transportation management decisions.
