Shields Group Search is partnering with a rapidly scaling construction-technology startup building the next-generation operating system for commercial HVAC, Electrical, and Plumbing suppliers and subcontractors.
Over the past year, the company’s V1 quoting product has scaled to 250 quotes per day and grown to $1.5M ARR, with adoption across many of the top suppliers in North America. Fresh off a $14M Series A led by top construction-tech investors, the team is entering its next phase of growth and building its founding sales organization.
They are now hiring a Founding Account Executive to own revenue from day one and help define the go-to-market engine.
The Role
As the second Founding AE, you will operate as a true revenue owner. You will bring a high-growth tech sales mindset into an industry still dominated by manual workflows, helping shape messaging, playbooks, and customer strategy that will define the company’s growth over the next several years.
This is an opportunity to sell a mission-critical platform, go deep on customer workflows, run enterprise sales cycles, and work closely with founders, product, and engineering in a high-ownership environment.
What You Will Do
Drive Revenue and Customer Growth
- Own the full sales cycle from prospecting through close
- Build repeatable outbound and inbound motions from the ground up
- Develop relationships across reps, contractors, distributors, and manufacturers
- Represent the company at key industry events and conferences to drive pipeline and partnerships
- Provide fast feedback loops on messaging, pricing, and GTM performance
Become the Voice of the Buyer
- Master HVAC takeoff, estimating, and quoting workflows with training provided
- Translate customer pain points into actionable product requirements
- Partner with product and engineering on roadmap and customer experience
- Advise founders on positioning, packaging, and expansion strategy
Build the GTM Engine
- Stand up foundational sales processes, CRM workflows, and enablement materials
- Define qualification criteria, objection handling, and demo flows
- Help craft the value proposition as the platform expands into electrical, plumbing, and broader MEP
- Lead onboarding, training, and expansion opportunities with early customers
What We Are Looking For
Required
- 3-10 years of sales experience in construction technology, ideally:
- SaaS platforms for construction workflows
- Software sold to subcontractors or suppliers
- Workflow-heavy B2B platforms adopted by operations teams
- Proven track record selling into construction or industrial customers
- Experience running complex, multi-stakeholder enterprise sales cycles
- Strong understanding of field workflows and adoption challenges
- Thrives in early-stage environments with high ownership and ambiguity
- Excellent communication skills and strong technical curiosity
Huge Plus
- Experience selling into MEP customers including mechanical, electrical, or plumbing sectors
- Background selling to estimators, project managers, or preconstruction teams
- Exposure to takeoff, estimating, or BIM-related platforms
- Experience building GTM motions from early stage to repeatability
Unicorn Profile Preference
- Candidates who began their careers in construction and later moved into technology sales
- Candidates from tech companies focused on the MEP (Mechanical, Electrical, or Plumbing) industry
Compensation and Benefits
- Base salary $110K–$130K
- On-target earnings up to $240K
